Metal Slug - the Run 'n' Gun that's second to none!Jul 28, 2008
By The Matrix Fan
"Video Gamer since 1979."
The Metal Slug anthology is a great addition to your PSP library. 10 years after these Neo-Geo games had their arcade runs, they're now available to own on one PSP disc!
The gameplay is simplistic - just run and shoot everything and everyone that gets in your way. There's no complex backstory to follow, but with games like this, there's no need: just choose your character and let the shooting begin!
This anthology comes with the following games:
Metal Slug
Metal Slug 2
Metal Slug X
Metal Slug 3
Metal Slug 4
Metal Slug 5
Metal Slug 6
Now the best part of any game is the replay value, right? Well, there's plenty of unlockables in this compilation designed to keep you coming back even after you conquer each of the seven Metal Slug games.
When you complete a Metal Slug game, you get a reward:
Completing a game on easy gives you 3 tokens.
Completing a game on normal gives you 4 tokens.
Completing a game on hard gives you 5 tokens.
With these tokens, you can unlock content to download right to your PSP and transfer to your Playstation 3 or your PC!
Unlockable content includes:
(1) Metal Slug Wallpapers & Desktop Themes
(2) Metal Slug Art Galleries
(3) Music from the Metal Slug series
(4) An interview with the Metal Slug original development team!
+ Pros:
+ 7 games at a very reasonable price.
+ High replay value.
+ Saveable progress within EACH Metal Slug game.
+ Allows selection of infinite continues for novice players.
+ Ad Hoc mode allows dual player games by connecting PSP's wirelessly.
- Cons:
- Load times diminish battery life.
- Unable to start another game at the "Game Over" screen.
- Lag times when too many characters are on-screen.
The Metal Slug anthology is perfect for those business trips or road trips - you deserve some good old-fashioned fun on your PSP.
Enjoy!

Sluggin It OutJul 03, 2007

I had always enjoyed playing this game in the arcades while I was growing up. I never knew that I could one day have all six games in the palm of my hand. All the games are screen for screen duplicates of their arcade big brothers. I'm very happy with my purchase of this game.

One of my favorite PSP games...Sep 10, 2007
By TenGHz This is a great compilation of the Metal Slug series. This is a great port. I think the PSP version is perfect. This is a great game to pick up and play for a while, and finish later. It's great if you have 5 minutes to kill, or 2 hours. If you like the Metal Slug games at all, you will appreciate this compilation. Most of the games are all the same, but have enough variation to feel different from each other. The only negative I can think of is the loading times. They aren't especially long, but they happen between EVERY scene in the same level. Plus at the character select screen it takes a good 3-4 seconds each time you cursor over a different character... The loading times aren't in critical spots in the gameplay, but they do get long sometimes, and get annoying when they happen every few minutes. I would still recommend this compilation highly to anyone that likes action games, or a fan of the series.

When I first heard about Metal Slug Anthology it was being released for the PS2 and I was a little excited but when I read the reviews for the PSP I was exctatic. This game (or games) was made for the handheld universe. It's pickup and play friendly, you can save anywhere in the game and you can set the game to give you unlimited continues. If you've never played a Metal Slug game just think Contra with its graphics and sound on steriods. The gameplay varries enough from sequel to sequel so you don't get that "didn't I play this level in the last game" feeling. On the downside some of the games (mainly Metal Slug 2) suffer from slowdown problems but these were simply inherited from it's arcade machine big brother (Metal Slug X is really just Metal Slug 2, with the slowdown fixed). The only other issue is load times, something that seems to plauge every PSP title.

Great little gameDec 02, 2009
By John W. Marcotte Few games are as easy or fun to pick up and play as Metal Slug. And with six varieties on a single disc, this will easily become one of the most played titles in your collection.
