2mind-numbing and featurelessApr 02, 2011
By trudy parsley
I'm a big fan of the series, but this game's a huge stinker. It only has two modes: standard 10-round Puzzle Mode, and a timed Challenge Mode. No unlockable modes, multiplayer, or even VS Computer.

The gameplay is solid, with good control, decent graphics, and some cool 3D effects, but the uncreative Puzzle Mode puzzles get pretty boring, and the only visible changes are the spinning planets in the background for each world. This makes for a repetitive and dreary longplay experience when compared to previous titles in the series, where music, levels, characters, and even pointers completely change.

The thing I hate most about this game is how dumbed-down it is. The pointer's training line (that usually appears for the first level in other games) is always on, and CANNOT BE TURNED OFF! This pretty much eliminates any strategy and guesswork to the point of just mindlessly shooting bubbles. I never died while playing this game. It even has a feature that pauses time when you dump a significant portion of the puzzle, allowing you to clear out the rest of the board in a matter of seconds. There's also no shot clock, destroying any sense of fun urgency that previous titles have supplied.

Do yourself a favor and check out Space Bust-A-Move for the DS instead; it's one of the best and most fulfilling Bust-A-Moves.

4A simple puzzler but the 3d is actually quite goodMar 29, 2011
By Lumister
This game type is nothing new and anyone familiar with Bust a Move will already be familiar with the format. I purchased this for my wife with her 3ds because I remember playing bubble bobble years ago on the NES with fond memories. Although the game play isn't anything revolutionary it is fun to kill some time with playing. However, the thing that really surprised me though is that the 3d visuals on this game are actually quite good with a nice sense of depth and even some 'pop out' moments. For the price compared to other launch 3ds games this game is a good pickup with the limited selection of other games at the moment.

4A note about the controlsApr 04, 2011
By Egon Logan "Egon"
I think the other reviewers have covered the topic pretty well, except I've found the controls to be difficult to use. The circle pad and D-pad are not sensitive enough (or too sensitive) for precise aiming in the game. I often have to turn back and forth several times before firing a shot. Maybe my 3ds is defective? It doesn't seem to be on other games, though. Anyways... overall it's a fun little game with nice 3D.

1Whoa, don't go buyin' this just because it's cheap!Apr 28, 2011

Bust-A-Move series has been known for it's addictive gameplay, pleasent music, cute characters, and fun multi-player action. Many say if it's not broken, don't fix it. This game is an example of what happens when you mess with perfection. What went wrong?

The look & graphics of the game themselves are fine, but one of my biggest complaints is that the bubbles are far too small. Almost half of the size of other Bust-A-Move titles which makes seeing what you're doing, let alone precision aiming, very strenuous on the eyes and that's with the 3D off! This problem is only further complicated when the 3D is enabled as the small bubbles appear even smaller as they are pushed into the distance. The 3D effects of the background and stage boarders only serve as a distraction (although a beautiful one) which helps to break your concentration rather than blend in and compliment the ambiance of the world. In fact, I found it so busy and distracting that I had to ultimately disable the 3D so I could not only see the pieces better but also so I could focus.

The bubbles themselves still appear flat, just further away which proves that all in all, this series from Day 1 was built for simply enjoyable 2D action and all the 3D does is add unnecessary polish, push the main focus of the game away and distract from the experience considering the only things that really jump out at you are the stage boarders and bonus flat, two dimensional artwork that appears obnoxiously close to your face from large combos and drops.

THERE IS NO MULTI-PLAYER. EVERY Bust-A-Move game since the original has had a multi-player mode. EVERY ONE... EXCEPT THIS ONE! What were they thinking?! I can understand not having more advanced features like Download Play but this game doesn't have any form of multi-player, not even multi-card or online. It doesn't even have a single player Vs. COM mode either! This was a major selling point of the series and many gamers will buy this title assuming since its never been absent once from any edition, that it'll be in here like I sadly had the misfortune of doing.

The game only has two modes, both of which are short, and there's not much else to do after you finish it.

3It's Bust a Move...nothing greatApr 13, 2011
By Doug
I've always been a fan of the Bust a Move titles, but this title has to be up there with my least favorite titles. The entire game is on the top 3D screen, which I understand is so that it can utelize the 3D effect. However this makes the bubbles tough to see at times since they're so small, and the blue and purple look so much alike that I made several mistakes. The puzzle mode is extremely lacking, I beat puzzle mode in 5 days.

The game didn't really add very much in the way of new content. There are new special bubbles that you can use as well as interact with, and the addition of the old school bubble bobble enemies was fun, but the game is still very lacking.

Now, the game is only $30, compared to $40 for most 3DS titles. However I would personally recomment picking this one up used at your local used game store. It should be pretty cheapr very soon since I'm sure a lot of people will be beating it very quick like I did.
