4One of the better sports mini game besides Nintendo'sDec 02, 2008
By Lana S
I'm glad I rented this & didn't assume it was shovelware.
Ok, you got your 12 sports & easy to understand menu system. The loading times aree pretty quick & you have the ability to hit A & skip EVERYTHING & ANYTHING you want such as the AI playing. The physics for mini games are well done, better then most, the instructions are detailed & easy to understand w/drawings & text. The scoring is very detailed to every aspect such as the world's best time, most jumps, most points, at the end of each game, etc. You also have a records area for the best for each aspect of each game for the best players. You get 10 celebrities (get quick text bio when selected) & 15 wannabes (silly costume characters), 9 of which are locked until you beat levels in the game. There are no different abilities for any of them nor are there any sound bites or any talking from any of the characters during the menu or in play. You have 9 "doors" for each character to go through in the solo tourney & each level has you go through 3 random games x 3 for supreme winner over all the other characters. When you win, you get a nighttime celebration (the only thing you can't skip, but it's sweet.) The tournament can also be played multiplayer. You can also play free play, in which you can choose the games either solo or multiplayer & choose the level of the AI: easy, normal or hard.
As another said, this can be played with just the wii remote, but since during play you will have directional changes, etc. it's much more playable & intuitive with the nunchuck.
Solo Mode:
Beach Volleyball - camera is far, but you always control BOTH characters at the same time. Can bump, set, spike & block spikes with wii swings & A button.
Inner-Tubing - tile wii mote to steer, lift up to jump, collect stars for points, jump over mines & pull down to slam on top of opponents to get their points.
Wild Water Canoeing - shake nunchck paddles one side, shake the wii mote the other (no nunchuck = shake & A & B buttons) go down center of waterfalls for bonus speed & avoid many rocks.
Hurdle Derby - wii tilt steer the horse, (2) to jump & shake up/down for speed.
Slalom Showdown - hold wii mote like joystick to steer, (B) to tuck/speed, miss gates = penalty time, go up ramps & lift wii mote to do tricks on them.
Cliff Hangers - move with nunchuck, but faster to flip wii mote to jump & (B) to grab wall, has mines, things that fall, water balloons.
Smash Badminton - like wii tennis, control both players at the same time.
Rapid Fire Archery - Hold (B) pull back & release launch at far away targets. Easy since you can see the aim as arcing line.
Joust Duel - like fencing w/nunchuck to move, (Z) to jump, (B) to block/parry & (A) as super hit when meter is up & shake to regain balance.
Curling - sensitive to how hard you swing, has also bombs to destroy your opponents puck as your puck, heavy ones & bumpers.
Arena Dodgeball - far away cam, but you move with nuchuck, swing to left/right when no ball to dodge fast, w/ball you wing to throw (it aims for you), (B) to duck or move remote to duck/roll even when have a ball. Also haas bomb balls & shield balls as well as walls that go up/down.
Air Racers - you fly a jet through narrow cannon using wii mote tilt, with mines, big blown colorful floating thins to avoid & fly through rings for speed. You get missles to fire in front of you with (B) & mines to drop behind you with (A) & so do your opponents so there's a lot of firing going on.
Inner-Tubing, Wild Water Canoeing, Hurdle Derby, Slalom Showdown, Cliff Hangers & Air Racers have 3 different courses each.
This game isn't perfect, but it's one of the better ones, you can tell they put real time & effort in this with the menu choices & the choice of how to use the controls (very intuitive) as well as add arcade things to add to the challenge & avoid dullness.

4Best Dodgeball game on any consoleNov 09, 2008
By D. Abustan
As far as party games go, this title, and Carnival Games are the ones I'm playing the most right now. The celebrity factor is pretty cool - I think Avril Lavigne and Fergie are the ones you'll know the most.

The dodgeball game is wicked - definitely the best of the set. You will need a Nunchuk though. It plays without one, but the controls are much better if you have one handy. All in all, it's has a pretty good set of mini-games - the best ones are Dodgeball, Curling, and Volleyball.

5Surprisingly Great gameDec 30, 2008
By B. Lee
I wasnt expected much when I bought this for $10 during Christmas on amazon. Turned out to be one of my best multipler wii games. I got it as a white elephant gift and then got to play it after with family and friends. Let me tell you, the dodgeball game in this is one of the best and most fun games I have played in a long time. Honestly, I would have been happy with the game if it was "Celebrity Dodgeball Showdown." Also, the other sport games were not so bad as well. They give you a chance to mix it up alittle, but in the end dodgeball is a game you could play with friends for hours at a time and really get into it. I highly recommend this game for some good ole multipler matchups. Even for $30 i still say this game is worth it.

4fun gameNov 15, 2009
By J. Chase "Packer Country"
I'm 32 yrs. old and I enjoyed this game. I mention my age because a lot of wii games are really geared towards the kid end of the spectrum. This game suits both I believe. I was playing this game with my dad the other night and had a great time. Yes, some of the controls might be a little loose on some games, but if you practice you can overcome. I really enjoyed the dodgeball, downhill skiing, curling, and others that I haven't played as much yet to make a review. The tubing I didn't care for at all and the jousting was really loose with the controls. If you're playing it by yourself it could get old. I'd say if you have a family or a group of friends, this is a great game to compete in. If you're looking for a game with exact science controls/movements, pass this one up. But if you're looking for a simple game with easy controls, you can't go wrong with this game and the low price.

5NOT a rip off!Jan 25, 2009
By Snook
I was hesitant to purchase this game, figuring the money paid for use of the celebrity likenesses would result in less spent on design and that getting to play as a celebrity would be the main focus of the game. Not so at all. Of the 30 or so Wii games I've purchased, this one is probably the best technically and in bang for the buck. It ranks equally with the Wii Sports games in quality and surpasses them in fun with its 12 "sports" games. Controls are thoroughly explained on screen for each game and records are kept for each player. For anyone who is not a serious gamer and just wants to pick up the controller and play, this is your game. For serious games, there are options in every game that let you do more with your character, but the game experience is just fine without them -- the best of both worlds. This is definitely the ultimate party game! Its price makes it a steal!
