5A classic ported to the SNESSep 11, 2009
By Shinobi "Sam"
Upon seeing this game in the SNES section of a local store, I knew I had to have it right away. Ported from the Computer-RPG version, it's pretty much the same as the original. This, for me, is a good thing, because I love RPG's in this style, but as another reviewer said, it still has the computer interface to it, which can make things a little clunky at times. For example: I would be walking down a dungeon corridor and I wanted to turn left, but instead of turning and moving forward, I might hit another direction and run into a wall. This is due to the 2x3 movement pad, seen in a lot of other CRPG's, like Dungeon Master or the some of the games in the Ultima series. On the SNES, it's a bit touchy at times, seeing as how you have to move the cursor from one direction to the other on the pad to move. But luckily, when selecting buttons on-screen, the cursor automatically scrolls to the next one, as it does with the movement pad as well, making it a lot faster to use than I had expected.

As for the other aspects, it's what you'd expect in any old-school style first-person RPG like this one. You create four characters all using the Advanced Dungeons and Dragons system, and venture underground to take down yet another evil being, along the way fighting monsters and creatures, as well as solving puzzles using items in your inventory, etc. I always have a lot of fun with these, but it's not for everyone. Some may find it boring as some of the puzzles can take a while. The combat system also doesn't have much of a strategy. The party attacks the monsters by either using a melee weapon, spells, bows, even rocks. (Which I've been using quite a bit of already and I just started a new game.) That having been said, again, some may find that boring, but being a die-hard RPG and D&D fan, I love it, and personally I think it contributes to the genuine style of early RPG's.

If you like D&D or RPG's, I would give this a try. There are tons of videos showing gameplay examples that you can also look into watching to get a better idea of what these games are like if you haven't seen them before. Love it or not, Eye of the Beholder is an awesome game none the less, and one that I will always enjoy.

3A classic not without it's design flawsApr 09, 2008
By K. Trepanier
This is a good game for it's time that is worth trying out if only to learn from the design flaws that it's system has. If you are a dungeon crawler fan and are not afraid of frustrations, this is a great classic. The interface is awkward and some extra visual feed-backs on the state of the game would have been useful but it is still a fun game to explore and toy with.

5One of the best classicsDec 31, 2007
By J. Ibey
If you like Puzzles that keep you on your feet then you will love this game. Almost everything on this game has a secret or puzzle of some kind. Traps, monsters, magic and the like will keep you always guessing what is wround the corner. The rolling for classes can be really boring taking around 30 mins to create 4 characters but it will be well worth the week of play.

2PC RPG on the Super NintendoApr 09, 2004
By Jan A. Cooper "Booklover1962"
If you are a fan of Dungeons and dragons, get this game. This game is not very recommendable due to its PC interface, which makes the game harder to play.
