Final Fantasy XIIJul 23, 2010 I bought this game for my oldest son. He really likes the Final Fantasy series and has tried most all of them. This is a great game. He has gotten hours and hours of fun out of playing it. The description said it had minor scratches on the disc but it appeared fine to us and plays great.
ff12Jul 06, 2010 Game is great. I bought used one for 5 bucks and it works perfectly fine. Hours of fun and if you like final fantasy you would definitely like this one.
My take on Final Fantasy 12...Jul 02, 2010 While many gaming websites gave the impression that this title is one
of the best Final Fantasy games for the PS2, I found that this title
offers little in fun than any other FF titles that I've played before.
Mostly because I find the gameplay frustrating and badly designed.
Being a PS2 game, by now many people have already reviewed FF12 so I
will just write about the specific things that made FF12 a less than worthy
installment to the great Final Fantasy franchise, at least to me... and maybe do a
game-to-game comparison for those of you who are familiar with the RPG genre.
STORY IS UNINTERESTING: The story revolves around a princess trying to save/restore her kingdom of
Dalmasca. The story is all aboutthe politics of that world. While
I personally don't mind seeing how one nation's leader interacts with
another in order to gain their support, the way it's told in this game
is really quite boring, unlike in other games where political intrigue
is what actually keeps you moving foward just to find out what happens next,
(i.e. Suikoden 5). FF12 just keeps dragging on.
LICENSE BOARD IS BROKEN: And what I mean by broken is that it was designed
very badly. Almost everything that you need to use in this game requires a
license, from weapons to magic spells to summons. What is odd is the fact
that they're all hidden from you at the beginning. This is an RPG which means
that there's a great deal of planning when it comes to leveling up your characters.
picking which weapons to equip, which spells to learn and so on, and therefore,
having knowledge beforehand on what is available to your character is paramount. And yet, SquareEnix
decided to hide all these from us and turn it into a guessing game. It can get
frustrating when that awesome spear you just found turns out to be useless
since you don't have the license for it yet. Plus the fact that it is hard to
tell where exactly on the license board you can get that spear's license unless
you gamble away your license points in hopes that the next weapon that's unlocked
is for that spear. They got it right with FFX's Sphere Grid so why make it worse?
It's a good thing they brought back the "Sphere Grid" on FF13.
AMOUNT OF MP IS TOO SMALL: Your characters run out MP so often that you'd wonder
why even bother with any spells other a cure or a revive spell. Using
potions and phoenix downs might help but there's always a chance you'd use them up
before you reach the nearest shop. And since earning money in this game is difficult,
this will make it hard to restock. It kinda gives the game a false sense of
challenge just because you can't heal properly in a tough fight rather than using
your skills to figure out how to take down the enemies. Although I think SquareEnix
realized how much more fun it is to not have to worry about MP when fighting enemies
when they made FF13, which is a far superior game.
GRINDFEST: Some of the bosses (and some mini-bosses) can be cheap. While I know a little
planning might've saved you from dying all too easily. It's pretty obvious that the developers wanted
you to grind for hours and hours just to beat the next boss and advance the story.
To some people, this is a plus, but to me, too much grinding will detract you from the
story and can get quite repetitive. To make grinding work, fights have to be fun and addictive,
(i.e. Demon's Souls) so that it won't feel like a chore while you're doing it. And when you
finally reach a level you're satisfied with, it would feel like an accomplishment instead
of a waste of time.
There are a good things about this game though. Good graphics. Good voice acting (I know
some people will disagree). Beautiful world to explore. Gambits are pretty fun to use.
However, the reasons I stated above are enough to suck the fun out of my experience with this game.
LOVED ITJul 01, 2010 I have heard over and over that people found this game to be too hard to play. In reality, it was the easiest, more enjoyable game I have ever played. The battle system was wonderful. You can avoid fighting if you want to, you can change the number of people who do fight (and who appear on your screen), and you can have a sort of "mini-army" where you can automatically have your party members fight for you as you walk around.
It was EXTREMELY realistic, and I loved it. I never felt like anything was wasted or annoying (except the chocobo thing).
