Most wrestling video games try to capitalize on well-known licenses, but end up falling short in their portrayal of TV-style wrestling. Not so the acclaimed Fire Pro Wrestling games. This translation for the GBA keeps the tradition of play over personality intact. Any real fan of the body blow and the suplex should want this game. Featuring 150 different wrestlers from which to choose, each with his or her own moves and finishers--as well as the option to combine more than 1,200 techniques and styles to create your own grapplers for the 3-D isometric ringside--Fire Pro Wrestling doesn't lack variety. You can even link up your GBA unit to fight against your friends or trade wrestlers you've created. You can also play against the computer, which turns out to be a pretty good opponent. The game takes full advantage of both the A and B and the shoulder buttons, so the control is solid. Getting used to the time delay for punches and kicks can be frustrating, however. The manual does an excellent job in teaching you the tremendous variety of moves, and once you've learned what you can do, the gameplay is extremely satisfying. About the only thing lacking from the game is familiar personalities. In offering so many fighters, each seems rather bland, and one is often a thin variation on the last. Of course, your own imagination can let you add a Rock-like or Mankind-esque wrestler, if that's what you want. Anyway, it's good fun for a handheld. Cool Awesome GameMay 06, 2001
This Game Is Awesome!!! This game has over 200 pre made wrestlers with different styles like technical, hardcore, and luchador, plus more. There are six different match types. They are: Audience Match- In this match you try to impress the crowd by doing big moves aqnd showboating. The more you do the more points you get. The more points you have the higher you get in the rankings. Survival Match- Similar to WWF's SlobberKnocker bouts. You fight 10 people in a single strech. One Night Match- Just an exibition match. You can choose from single, tag team, battle royal, Mortal Combat (weapons in the ring), and octagon style matches similar to Ultimate Fighting Championship. One Night Tournament- 16 wrestlers fight in a tournament in one night. Open Leauge- Same as one night except the tournement lasts several nights. Elimination Match- Similar to WWF's survival series. This game also has create a player mode so your limitations are endless. And of course the graphics are outstanding because its on GameBoy Advance. Get this game!

First wrestler for GBA is a blast!Jun 16, 2001
By Benjamin Denes Finally the Advance Gameboy is here, and the first wrestler available is Firepro. I have heard much about the series of wreslting titles, and I must say this is a good wrestling game. With a gameplay style a tad different than fighting games I am used to, Firepro is a title that rewards timing and patience. It comes with many wrestlers, and has an extremely indepth create-a-wrestler function. Styles range from typical american pro wrestler to ultimate fighting style, so the type of character you make can have quite a range. On the downside, the game has no championship mode, where the player would play a "storyline" mode. This seriously hampers replay value, as players are left to fight one-on-one matches without any serious reward. Also, unlike some of the other released games where you could have 4 players play off of one cartridge, Firepro demans that each player have a seperate cartridge as well. All in all, a good start for the Advance. A good solid wrestler that will have you learning the ins and outs for a while.

Fire Pro Wrestling is awesome.Aug 24, 2003
By K. Murphy This is a great wrestling game. The best for the GBA next to the second version. You have to rename all of the wrestlers you know. This is to protect the copyright issues. A few of the hints to rename a)the nicknames chosen b)the names chosen and c) the finishers chosen. to unlock the hidden wresters you must go to the EDIT menu select EDIT SUPERSTAR go to NAME ENTRY. on the first line type ALL on the line below it type STYLES and on the line next to that type CLEAR. This should unlock all the hidden wrestlers.

Not for you, TwitchyJul 02, 2001
By Daniel M. Nugent What people might not understand about Fire Pro Wrestling is that it is a technical Wrestling game with controls that should be compared more to a Street Fighter 3 and it's incredibly complex moves system rather than Marvel vs Capcom 2 with it's button mashing action. That's not to say the game is hard or overly complex, but you have to understand the play system before you can expect to win a match. Most matches can be dissected into the beginning, the middle, and the finish if you are competent at the game. You start by weakening your opponnet to the point where you can use more complex moves on him/her succesfully at which point you must ensure that your wrestler maintains his/her stamina so that you can finish the opponent off through a pin, submission, or beating him/her till the point where they can go on no more. To do this you have to pay attention to your timing. Winning a grapple is all about timing your move so you can win, throwing a reversal at exactly the right moment, and initiating a running move at the correct distance. If you don't, you're dogmeat. That's not to say the game can't be picked up easily. I'd say after two hours of matches you can begin to win consistently on a medium difficulty level and begin exploring how to perform more accuratley. To those who say the graphics are poor, I'd like to bring up the sheer variety in the game in the number of different, costumes, body types, moves, and animations present. Merely customizing a wrestler can provide hours of fun as you swap boots for Ninja shoes and spandex tights for cutoffs. Even the amount of music is impressive as you can set wrestling themes and music to play during the match. The one fault I can see with Fire Pro Wrestling is the lack of a demo concerning timing of a grapple. That would be very helpful to novice players who are just starting out.
