"Hi Hi Puffy Ami Yumi: The Genie and the Amp" for the DSMay 17, 2007
This game was a really cool game because you attack by touching four guitar strings on the touch screen. I really enjoyed that feature. On the other hand, the game was dull and repetitive as each level wouldn't be much different from the next. All in all, I think this game was good.

It's just so bad!Jul 16, 2006
By Vinster This game is a classic case where the game developer released something to merely cash in on the popularity of the Puffy/Ami/Yumi franchise. The game is entirely a side-scrolling fighter (except for the occasional forgetful mini-games)and you'll fight 3 or 4 of the same enemies over and over again on a level, then it's off to the next level to fight the next 3 or 4 new enemies over and over AND OVER. I was prayiing that each level would end before it ever began. This is just too bad because the sound samples and amount of unlockable content made me want to keep playing; sadly the repetitive gameplay overshadows anything positive the game can offer. Don't buy this for yourself and don't you dare buy it for your children -no matter how much they beg you, because if you do, they will grow up hating you for it!

All AMPed Up !Aug 17, 2006

"CN fan"
"Hi Hi Puffy Ami Yumi: The Genie and the Amp" is a real must have for Puffy fans and DS owners.
Puffy fans will like playing as either Ami or Yumi or both via two-player mode featuring interchangeable outfits and different types of guitars each with their own special powers.
DS owners will love the innovative touch screen that features touching with the stylus upon the guitar strings to unleash multiple attacks and combo attacks. You can also use the stylus to play different minigames including a special prize-grabber game and a sushi-making game.
So anyway, this game is about the two "J-poppusu" starlets looking for inspiration. They stumble across a magical genie in an old amplifier for some help. With the genie's powers, the girls go on a time-travelling tour in unique 3-D levels with tons of characters from the TV show. Use the guitars to attack the enemies and pickup cash for powerups and other things.
This is one of neatest DS games ever created. Perhaps the first one from Cartoon Network ! I hope you'll enjoy this game as much as I did.

I expected more...Aug 11, 2006
By JVA I'm a big fan of Puffy AmiYumi-- both cartoon and the real duo so I bought a Nintendo DS Lite and this game.
The last game 'Kaznapped' was surprisingly a very good game. There were many unlockables and the gameplay was great. No flaws, glitches, nothing. It was your typical side scrolling game: solve puzzles, defeat enemies and bosses, get rewarded with unlockables. That game lead me to thinking that since it was made by the same developers, that the Genie And The Amp would also be a good game... But I was wrong.
The main problem I have with this game is the fact that it was indeed a big cash grabber. To me it just seemed the game was rushed out there to get money. And that's just wrong. The $20 price tag usually tells you if the game is good or not.
The gameplay is pretty bad... All you do is beat up bad guys, collect money to buy outfits, and beat up bosses. THAT'S IT!! The guitar attack used to defeat enemies is badly executed. Sometimes I don't know what strings Im actually strumming or if I am strumming at all. It's so bad they actually let you use hte BAXY buttons as an alternative.
The graphics are ok for the Nintendo DS. The cut scenes also look pretty nice, but once you get passed all that, this game leaves alot to be desired. There are not enough unlockables to actually enjoy this game, sadly.
If you are a fan of Puffy like myself, you will own this game. But if not, you have no reason to buy this.
