5awesome but difficult game...May 29, 2007
By mark twain
first off i have to say i've never played a vs. game before, i've bought some sets but have never got around to playing it. so it was a steep learning curve, i had no idea what was going on at first. but it's not too difficult, there are tutorials and i started plowing through the punks and goons then ran into a roadblock with the big-name opponents. very tough. not unbeatable, but very tough. i'm still not 100% on the rules and ins and outs of the game, which doesn't help, but overall this is a great great game for comic book fans, vs. fans, and ds fans. the comic book graphics in the story are excellent, and the interface is easy and well-done working with the ds touch screen.

beware of negative reviews on this game (see above), as they are probably by idiots or nintendo haters (the only reason i write this nonsense is because my honest review as a purchaser was similarly explained away by another 'reviewer'). i've played this game pretty much straight for three days (and only completed around 30% or so) and i can honestly say it's the best game i've played yet on the ds. it can be brutally hard at first (took me forever to get through the spider-man missions playing the hero side), so i think if you don't appreciate a challenge you might give up quick with this one. the controls are easy but if you can't see small things well or cannot manipulate precisely with the stylus this game might not be for you. also the tutorial at the beginning is so 'painfully long' it took maybe a couple of minutes at most, which i spent forwarding through anyway since i had no idea what was going on. but i figured it out through playing as always.

4Not for sissiesJul 26, 2007

I'm not much for reviews but I felt the reviews here were unfair. Let's get this out of the way first and foremost. This game is not for wimps or casual gamers. It has the steepest learning curve of any game I've ever played. Expect to spend a good day before you can graduate out of the n00b class and have any idea what you're doing. But I assure you, the time is well spent. Once you grasp the controls and strategy required you'll find a game of surprising depth and elegance. It rivals only puzzle quest for addictiveness. Playable (though difficult) to the end with only a rudimentary strategy this is a game that only truly comes to life in the hands of masters. Watching a person who has really taken the time to understand the subtleties of the game is like watching a general conduct fields of men in one orchestrated movement. It's sort of like pokemon games as played by those rare and elite breed of obsessive fanboys who understand EVs and spend hours catching the pokemon with the right temperament. Only this game is harder and without the option of ignoring all that and beating the game with one pikachu and a jigglypuff. I highly recommend this game to those looking for gaming at a higher level. This is not a game you'll sleep through, expect to be constantly involved and mentally aware. Also as a x-men fangirl I just have to regress to my teens for a moment and say "This game rocks!!!!" Thank you.

4Lots of fun for CCG fansMar 01, 2008

This game has a great UI for the DS... much better then PSP or PC. The rules are difficult to understand at a casual level... if you play Magic the Gathering you should be right at home. The opponent decks are very challanging, so be prepared for many repeat battles... sometimes one mistake can mean loss.

4Pretty solid gameJun 21, 2011

This was a great deal for this game. Came sealed and with the bonus promo card. The game itself is a bit tough but I would recommend it to any fans of Marvel and fans of Vs System.

3For pros onlyJun 03, 2007

Trading card games, real or digital, are an acquired taste to say the least. You either get them and dig them, or you don't. I myself have never really been into these kind of card games since Magic: The Gathering when I was a kid, and for one reason or another, decided to give the DS version of the Marvel Trading Card Game a try. Needless to say, why you get a decent card game here, it's really for pros only, and newcomers to the genre are far from welcome here. Featuring a bevy of Marvel heroes and villains and various attacks in your decks, the Marvel Trading Card Game offers some interesting modes and ways to play as you hold your DS sideways to play (similar to playing Hotel Dusk: Room 215) and features good use of Marvel's VS system as well. What really sells the game however is the excellent use of the Wi-Fi capability of the DS which provides for some great multiplayer match-ups, but other than that, there isn't anything that card game players haven't come across before. The game's interface is archaic even when using the touch screen and stylus to navigate, and as I've said before, this is made for card game pros only and offers no easy way to get into the game for newcomers. All in all, those who enjoy card games and want to play a digital version of Marvel's will get a kick out of the Marvel Trading Card Game, but for newbies your time is better served elsewhere.
