Low score given by IGN but I rate it highNov 24, 2004

"Scorpion 'Toasty'!"
Game sets in '68 Nam. You start as a private and advance higher and higher through the ranks. Game play is very good, very challenging but it has it flaws as does every other game out there. I'll give you a for instance: During gameplay you and your squadmates are engaging the Vietcong and your allies will run right into the enemy and the enemy will find you first and shoot at you. But during later missions your squad will actually get in some great shots to aid you. Graphics are outstanding, voice-over is a little off. Very graphic about blood and body parts and yes very course language. Has a great soundtrack from the 60's. Be warned this game is very, very long. Another plus, it has co-op play so you and your buddy can play split screen or even on XBox Live. So, enjoy this game because, I love it.

Wonderful realism, but very difficultJan 01, 2005

I have been playing first person shooters since Doom was on the market. Men of Valor has wonderful graphics, story, and realism. The only aspect of the game I hate is the difficulty level. When the difficultly level is on easy I had to play some missions over 12 times! I pride myself on beating most games on medium to hard. If you like to play a mission over and over again this game is for you, but I like to progress through a game in a reasonable amount of time. Oh yeah, one more thing, there is one set number of enemies on a mission. For example, I was walking through the jungle with my squad and came upon a village of four to five huts; VC jumped out immediatly. I found cover behind a tree and picked then off with my M-14, but they never stoped comming. When I finished the mission I had killed 128(!) enemies in 4-5 huts. Overall the graphics, story, and weapons are great, but the difficulty level is like pushing a concrete block in the sand.

EA games your days of making crappy war games is overOct 21, 2004
By Stompy I just got this game yesterday and I was impressed with the over all presentation. Sure it's no Halo 2 (comes out in less than 30 days) mind you, but it's not supposed to be. This is a very accurate vietnam war game. I myself own some of the weapons that are avalible in the game (Colt 1911, SKS, M14), and they all sound and reload the way they do in real life. The single player game and 2 player cooperative mode is very well done. The trees, voices, and best of all the explosios all have very nice touches added to them. Both the enemy and allied AI is good but not great. The soundtrack is another stong point for the game it consists of 60's and 70's music combined with a classic modern battle score. The developers 2015,were previously with EA games and made allied assualt. The first medal of honor on ps1 was a breakthrough in ww2 games, and at the time was created by dreamworks interactive. Electronic Arts being as greedy as they are bought the small development team and like their sports franchises tried to create a monopoly. MOH Allied Assault was a great game on the PC but it lacked what war was all about, blood and more importantly the attitudes of the men who fought it. MOH frontline was a scaled down version of allied assault for PS2 and was a direct port to XBOX, as was Rising Sun. These were both ok games, but they were lacking something. Men of Valor powered by the unreal engine improves the over concept of the first person war game genre and adds several new game features like the ablitily to bandage your self when you are bleeding, and being able to search dead bodies of both enemies and allies. If you do not use cover and tactics you will not last long, you are not a geniticaly engineered superhuman cyborg that can jump 10 feet in the air and then do a 180 in mid-air, while shooting some one in the head with a sniper rifle from 200+ meters, you are an average soldier with a small amount of health and average abilities. I have not played the online multi-player enough yet but the class based system should be interesting. If the game would have come out a few months earlier like it was supposed to it would recieve much more praise, but with Halo 2 on the horizon it will quickly be over shadowed, and it might not recieve the following that it deserves.

A Solid First Person Shooter.Dec 09, 2004

Men Of Valor contains intense firefights in the jungle's,underground bunker's,foxhole's,and towards the end into the city.I felt I was able to see the enemy better in this game than the other Vietnam games, but in the very dense jungle parts it was hard too see the enemy, much like the real vietnam war. There's no commands to give either to your squadmates, they pretty much figure it out on there own,but sometimes I wish I could direct them because sometimes they weren't any help, but sometimes they saved my but many times as I was flanked to my side by an enemy.Sometimes your followed by 2 to 4 teammates .And one mission is solo in the underground bunker.(The whole game you just control your own man).It kinda works out because you have your hands full with the many tough enemy soldiers coming at you.I played it on next to hardest setting and it was just hard enough to keep me going. But you can't save on the fly,you have to make it to a checkpoint before game automatically saves.I guess it took me about 25 hours to finish ,it seems longer than the other games. When I finished game a total of 1,330 enemies I killed. This is not a tactical squad type command shooter where you give orders mostly all tactical orders are given to you. You do have squadmember's with you fighting along side you, sometimes they took point ,but mostly it's you who's up front. You can also pick up enemy weapons and health, but you better be quick because they dissapear after a while. You can also switch out weapons trade your's for there's.You have a total of 4 weapon slots. Whenever I got the chance I would pick up an AK47 or any enemies weapon because your own ammo supply will run short, then you just pick up enemies ammo, and health after youv'e blasted them because they only drop ammo that fits there guns not your supplied american weapon. This game also sticks to the facts of the vietnam war, your not gonna win, just like the real war,but you do save a life and win many small battles.I won't spoil who it is.It's no real big plot twist. Also the facts displayed during load times are interesting. The graphics are good,a little blocky, but still nice, some of the explosions were really kool, nice fire effects, also during the cutscenes you can look around in first person while they are playing. Keep in mind I am using an "S" cable which inhances graphics on all games.I like it when you get to the city parts ,you can see the enemy better.Lets face it the jungle's a tough place to fight an enemy with so many hiding places. This game gave me a respect for the vietnam war,the soldiers and the effects it had on our country. It makes you feel like your in it.In conclusion this is a solid shooter game. With a no brainer type game style, mostly linear with tactical commands for your soldier.Just shoot, take cover, shoot, run, rinse, repeat. All of the commands are directed (at you) such as "defend perimiter",or "take that turret",or "take out RPG & Sniper's",or "provide cover fire for squadmate so he can take out bunker",or "take out that tank.etc.etc."

All I can say is WOW!The awsome graphics ,The awsome sound which is also better that holo 2(sound that is),and the very grand presentation and story some of the battles you fight will have your heart completely racing its that good. I played trough this game in about 15-20 hrs I didnt really keep up with it.A few days later i got my copy of Halo 2 As huge of fan as i am of Halo I'll have to admit I had more fun with this game.Halo 2 is only about 11-12 hrs long and you can read my review on it I was disapoited.Be warned if you are offended my vulgar languge or if you crack under pressure this is not a game for you.most of us may be to young to haved served in vietnam thankgod, but this game puts the hell our soldiers went trough in a new context in your brain up till now if you werent there yourself I guess you have visions of Vietnam from movies Like Platoon,Apox. Now,Hamburger hill,in this game you mind will go into vietnam overdrive.I would go to bed and have dreams of VC poping outta bushes and diffrent things like that,it really gave me better perspective on the war then, and a greater appreation for are military men and women fightin in Iraq and Afganistan,if anythin after you play this game I believe you will Have A better understaning of the phrase War Is hell, atleast as much as you can get without have being there.
