3Not quite the old Arcade GameJan 22, 2000

This game lacks some of the advantages that it had in the arcade, namely the track ball. using the Gameboy directional pad is difficult to get used to and control. It is possible that if I played it enough, I would probably find it less challenging, tho. It has some nice graphics and the rumble feature is pretty cool. I think if you REALLY liked the arcade game you will like it if you are willing to take the time to get used to the controls.

2Beware! This is simply a re-release of the 1991 Gameboy version!Mar 03, 2009
By Arrested Development
Old-schoolers who gobbled up the Atari/Hasbro/Activision updates for Space Invaders, Asteroids, Missile Command, Pong etc. for Playstation and like platforms in the late 90's need to be aware of this rare occasion of Nintendo trickery for the Gameboy! Maintaining my state of arrested development, I recently went on Amazon and purchased Space Invaders for GameBoy Advance and Asteroids for GameBoy Color, and was very satisfied with the representation of the updated games contained therein (based on updated versions for Playstation from 1998 and 1999). Since an updated version of Missile Command was released for Playstation in 1999 by Atari/Hasbro and had some really cool game updates and features (similar to the Activision Space Invaders and Asteroids updates of 1998 and 1999), I figured Missile Command for GameBoy Color from 1999 would at least be based on the same program. Wrong! This is simply a re-release of a version from 1991 for the original Gameboy by the "Code Monkeys." This was a decent version for it's time, but bears no resemblance to the updated features of the Atari/Hasbro release of 1999 for Playstation (and little resemblance to the original Atari arcade version as well). Nintendo even tried to make the packaging resemble that of the 1999 Playstation update.

All this game adds to the 1991 Gameboy program is color, a few minor animations between levels, and a silly rumble feature that turns on every time you fire a missile! The music and sound effects are identical to the 1991 version as well. The poor "Code Monkeys" who originally developed the program in 1991 got their credits snipped off the opening sequence as well.

So, if you're an old-school collector snatching up handheld versions of the classics and their updates before they fade away, stay away from this one.

1Please Don't buyJun 28, 2000

Don't buy this game! It has the worst graphics you have ever seen! You shoot a line at another line, and that is the object of the game. I thought the rumble feature was alright, but it was usually just a buzz, and it takes a battery.
