5NBA Live 09 ReviewJan 28, 2009
By L. Sneed
This is by far the best basketball game I have ever played. EA Sports definetly did a great job adding new features like pick and roll controls and quickstrike anklebreakers are the best. The only issues I have with the game is that the defense is slow to non reactive at times, there are morphing issues with player bodies, and the quickstrike anklebreakers are not individualized all the players will have the same crossover etc. All in all the game is the best and I play for hours until I can't see straight. Great GAME!!!!!!1

5Way better that NBA 2K9!Oct 15, 2008
By Eric101962 "Eric101962"
I first purchased NBA 2K9 and the game was good but they really messed up the online play from last year. I think they did a horrible job. I traded the game in for NBA Live 09 and I have to say I was not disappointed. I actually think the game is better than NBA 2K9. The graphics are good and the game is way more fun. I have to say I haven't bought a NBA Live game since NBA Live 05 so I wasn't a fan for a few years. NBA 2K9 made me go back to NBA Live 09. I am happy I did. The Live 365 feature is really hot. They also have a practice where a trainer helps you work on your weaknesses. Get this game. You will not be disappointed. The online play is great. Way better then NBA 2K9.

3Oh look at mr badass defender with all the speed.....Apr 26, 2012

This game. Where do I start? In normal game play, or "play now", the game is everything youd expect. Sharp graphics, easy to get used to controls, and the sound on this game is great. BUT! alas, the game play. Dude, when ever you knock a ball loose, your player seriously goes into slug mode while the villain team all of a sudden goes meth driven turbo. 1 time out of 10 you get a loose ball. THIS is the main reason I decided to review the game, because it drives me crazy. Also, if you manage to break past the defender, good luck cause its not happening for long. The meth kicks back in and hes right back in front of you. But by-god, when he blows by you, freakin just put two points up on the board cause its happening.

Oh, rebounding, you ask? Well let me tell you. Its not happening. Even with your Maxed out stats, 7'6 created Center and Power Forward. Your player just jumps straight up, but his elbows never leave his ribs, making more of a "i dont know" gesture/shrug thing. The horrible Korean team (rated 60) will out rebound you any day. And we all now how tall people from Korea are. Also, the whole "kicking it out for the 3" is gone on this game. You know what I mean, driving to the basket, they double team you, then you kick it out to the open guy for the 3. Or when you get double teamed on the post then pass it out for a three, the dudes foot is on the line EVERY TIME!!!!!!! This is my second reason for being mad at this game. That used to be like a guaranteed 3 every time. Not no more, guys. Not no more.

The team selection now, instead of the "decade all-stars" or whatever, you can choose teams from different countries. Some of the countries are really bad. So I built a team of AMAZEBALLS created players (ill get to the so-frustrating-it'll-make-you-need-to-poop creation center later)to be able to wipe the floor with a bad team. Even with Long-distance shooting on my player and on the game turned all the way up, you still only make maybe 6/10. I dont understand this. The other games when you did it you made like 11/10 all the time. When we want to drain 3's "all day", then let us. It's almost like they tweaked the settings to make it harder. Dunking is automatic though. You can pretty much dunk anytime, anyplace, like a cop or like a mop. (?).

The play calling in this game is stupid. You have your main four plays that all the games have had(isolation, post up, get open, and whatever). They also have pick and roll, which is crazy fun to use and easy enough your mom could figure it out. But the "real plays" like 25 guard open 9, they dont work. Your players just set screens all over the place and nobody gets open. Im sure if you wanted to dedicate the time to figure these out you could, but you just cant get the hang of them immediately. Im more of a beat the team by 100 kinda player, so i dont really use them anyway. Also Marv Albert and good ol' Steve Kerr are back. Pretty much the same as its always been, Marv's the main commentator, while Steve just makes smart ass comments about you pulling up for a 3 on a fast break. I hate Steve Kerr.

Creating a player has some pretty cool customization tricks on it. You can now pick a jump shot style, free throw style, and dunk style. The jump shot styles have so many types to pick from, probably 30-40 players. But with dunking style, you have 9. Yeah, I typed 9. Kobe and Lebron's are probably the best, but they still get pretty tiring after 3 or 4 games. The addition of the tendencies are for the OCD player who will stalk every villians move and find out if they have a tendency to go left or right handed, short or mid range, or take it all the way to the hole. Its pretty much just finding out how the other team plays to up your defense. But if your a casual player you probably wont use it much. Same with the player DNA. I cant even go into that cause I've never paid attention to it.

EA Sports would do GREAT to add a "Max All Stats" button to the create a player. The process has gotten so detailed and annoying to do that its not fun. It takes a little over an hour to do. You have to do all the crap with the tendencies and DNA and it doesnt even really make a difference. Most people, I'd assume, just want a badass dunker who can drain 3's from a mile away, and make steals that would make Danny Ocean jealous. But through the process to get this done, you also have to go through how smart your player is with the ball stats. Its dumb.

Dont let my poorly written, sad review stray you away from this game. It IS fun. It is WELL worth the $5-10 youd spend on it. But EA needs to work out some of these few kinks to make a better game.

P.S. Steve Kerr can shut the hell up.

I bought this for my 10 year old son. We both play and have a great time. It is very easy to play and the older version of this game was a perfect price.
