THIS IS A REVIEW FOR ALL THREE VERSIONS ON NINTENDOGS+CATS

First, I would like to clarify that this is NOT an cat game and it's mainly dogs. The cats are "unlockable" after you've showed to the game that you are responsible enough to take care of you dog(s). The cats are a lot harder to "get close to" but they requires much less cares and attentions. It dosen't matter which version you get, you're going to get the same cats.

Why did I made a review for all three versions? Well, because THERE'S NO DIFFERENCE!!! REALLY!!! All dogs and cats are unlockable in each games. The only "difference" is the items that are avalible in the games (meaning different colors). However, you can get the items via "street passing" with other players. ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW IS WHICH DOG YOU'RE GETTING FIRST.

The toys in this game really shows off the 3d effect here (EX: freesbie, boomerang, helicopters). The dogs in 3d are ADORABLE! This game may seems easy, but a deep strategy game is hidden under the paws (not literatly). For example, you might be surprised how much better your dog can do with proper training and a good night sleep. I would like to point out that where you're petting your dog really matters (DO NOT MESS WITH THEIR TAILS!!!), they bites. 0_0

This game make people smiles, and just when you think you're done with the game... A NEW ITEM POPS UP! (hint: mario kart ;D and mario house)

GAMEPLAY AND CONTROL: 8 out of 10
GRAPHIC AND SOUND: 9.5 out of 10
REPLAY VALUE: 7 out of 10
OVERALL: 8 out of 10

4Fun game, and has differences from the originalMar 30, 2011

I own Nintendogs for the the Nintendo DS, and was excited to play Nintendogs + Cats for the 3DS. I was still pleasantly surprised to play it! I knew I would like the Nintendo 3DS and Nintendogs + Cats, but I didn't think I'd like them this much. First, let me tell you that I am a 26 year old woman. I hear this game is targeted at children, but I still find enjoyment in it! The dogs have more personality in this game than the original, which is nice. The walks you can take with your dog are more enjoyable. The game understands my voice more in this game than the original. The graphics are obviously a lot better than the original; the 3D is way cooler than I thought it would be. It's something you have to see to believe.

The only complaint I have is that the dogs never go to the bottom screen the way they do in the DS version. When you're playing with the dog, there is a silhouette of him/her on the bottom screen, and you pet the silhouette as it shows a hand petting the dog on the top screen. I liked being able to "pet" the actual dog in the first game.

Overall, it's just a nice, little game. I haven't been able to adopt a cat yet, but I have played with the kittens in the kennel. I'm slightly disappointed at the variety, there are only three kinds of cats. But for me, that doesn't detract from the experience at all.

Also in this game, you can buy furniture for the house and the dogs and cats interact with the furniture, which is a nice touch.

The reason why I give it 4 stars instead of 5 is due to the fact that this is not a lengthy game. Spending half an hour a day feels like enough time with it. I understand it's a simple game, and that's what I like about it. I definitely recommend this game for kids; it's pure and kid-friendly. But I also recommend this for the adults like me who enjoy pet simulators. :)

4Fun game, I love it!Oct 04, 2011

This is a great spin-off of the originals- here's a list of pros and cons

PROS-
-Looks amazing in 3D, unless you do the stupid thing and play all day.
-Taking your dog for a walk looks drastically different, much better.
-You DON'T have to wait half an hour to walk your dog again!
-Prices are much more realistic.
-The dogs and cats look very realistic, they actually look fluffy!
-Overall, they improved on the original version.

CONS-
-There are no more agility competitions! Now it's lure coursing, I would have liked more variety.
-This is not a game based on cats, the things you can do with them are much more limited.
-There are only 3 breeds of cats BUT there are MANY colors.

Overall, this is a great game for all ages!

5Puppies and Kittens are ADORABLE!!!Oct 02, 2011

This game is so much fun! It is very similar to the original nintendogs for the Nintendo DS, but the graphics are WAY better, and the added Lure Coursing to the game, but took out Agility (my fave from the original in the contests), and made walks so that you can see where you are going instead of just watching your dog run. There are also more toys and accessories to play with and use. The kittens are adorable! I just wish that when you choose your dog, you could choose things besides color, like weight and eye color, stuff like that. Anyway, the pets are adorable, the graphics are better and the game is fun. It's a great game. This is a great game for everyone except super hardcore gamers that don't have much of a soft side. Great game!

3Not much different than DS versionAug 15, 2011
By Gadgeteer
I bought Nintendogs and Super Street Fighter at the 3DS launch. I've been pretty disappointed by Nintendogs. Here's why:

- This is almost exactly the same game as the DS version. There are some changes here and there, but if you have played the DS version it is really the same. I spent a lot of time with the DS version and frankly it felt like a chore to go back and do it all over again. I was hoping for something a little different. The animal game genre has moved forward, but it feels like Nintendogs has not.

- The controls in the 3DS version are hampered by the DS hardware itself. Most of the pets are shown on the top 3D screen. However, all of the interactions occur on the lower 2D screen. For me, a big part of Nintendogs' charm was that you were petting or washing your dog directly. In this version you are interacting with a shadow while your pet is on the top. To me, this really takes you out of the experience. I usually give the game to my 4yr old daughter and she keeps trying to touch the 3D screen.

On the positive side, the 3D is quite good. However, the novelty wore off pretty quickly for me. This is not a bad game but it should not be a full priced game. Heck, I might have even included it with the system. If you have a 3DS and not a DS (I can't imagine who you are) I'd probably recommend getting the 3D version if you can find it used or on sale. But if you've already got Nintendogs, I would wait for the next version.
