4Great Wii Game For Younger Kids!!Nov 01, 2007
By A. Stagg
For teens and older, I think this game will get tedious pretty fast. However, I was looking for a good Wii game with simple controls (single controller) to play with my younger children. "Playground" makes an excellent addition to our Wii library of games and both the single-player and multi-player modes will get a good workout from us. This one is actually simpler than Carnival Games which I also recommend as a "kid friendly" game.

Basically, you wander around the playground collecting marbles and challenge other children to various games to earn stickers to place in your sticker book. Many smaller kids will find this feature quite appealing. My favorite games so far are the slot cars, paper airplanes, and dodgeball. All are simple enough (at least at the beginning) for most children to play. For example, tetherball is exceptionally simple at the outset. As you gain experience and skills, you will unlock more advanced versions of the games and new games as well. The game increases in difficulty as you progress.

As with most Wii games, don't expect stellar graphics quality. The Wii is aimed towards gameplay rather than graphics and this is another good implementation of the mini-game format for which the Wii is famous. One thing that does annoy me with the game is that although the text is in English, the children speak in Japanese. It's kind of cute, but for the price, I'd hope they'd have taken the time to re-dub the audio portions.

Overall, I think my children will find this enjoyable and challenging. This is a wholesome videogame that I can recommend without qualms.

4My 4-year-old and 7-year-old love this game!Nov 30, 2007

The four of us in our family have been playing this game for about a month and we have a great time with it. I can see how this game wouldn't be so much fun to play by yourself, but it's super fun to play against other people. I highly recommend this game if you are looking for something the whole family can play.

3Decent game, lack replayabilityNov 01, 2007

The common Wii game problem is the lack of content. Playground has 8-9 mini games, but they are almost identical. Only really different and enjoyable game was the paintball shooting. Comparing the 8-9 game difficulty level, it's about as complex as 1 mini game in Rayman.

So considering Rayman gives you 50 or so hilarious mini games, and playground offers 8 very similar mini games, this is really not a great buy. Rental game for party, but not a keeper.

Like th 3 star rating, nothing is superb in the game, but nothing is bad. It's just bland. $40 could be better spend on something else.

5Excellent for kidsDec 30, 2007

My 7yrs old and 5yrs boys love this game. I can understand why people say "maybe not for older kids" but for kids under 10 its great. Its not too challenging but challenging enough to where they can play. I recommend it highly

3Get tough on the schoolyardApr 17, 2008

Playground has it's fun moments. It has an addicting quality to it's minigames as well. I liked it's layout of the playground and the total game dynamics, but I grew tired of most of the games after a couple days.

Dodgeball, which could have been the selling point of this game, seemed to lack a lot of gameplay. The games just went to quickly and seemed lackluster. Games often took less than thirty seconds, and you never really got going in a game to make it feel like you were really playing.

Wall ball was much the same way, quick games left me wanting more. In fact most of the games were this way.

Kicks was an interesting twist on Volleyball / Soccer, and was probably the deepest game on the disc.

Most of the games included special moves, which you bought with your marbles that you win from defeating your playground opponents.

I kind of wanted to finish collecting everything, but with no achievement system, I didn't find myself wanting to fight through the eventual boredom of the single player mode.

It's worth renting once, but I cannot recommend a buy for this game.
