Amazing graphics, highly entertainingDec 12, 1999
Being an amateur snowboarder myself, I found Rippin' Riders to be surprisingly fun to play. It's pretty easy to learn, but difficult to master. It took me about 10 hours to finish all the courses. One gaming tip: master the 720 spins and misty flips w/ grabs at trick points, because these will add 4-6 seconds to the clock. Some minor criticisms: - If you want to change one aspect of the current game, for example the board you're riding, you have to exit and choose everything from the beginning (player, outfit, board, stance, course). - Unable to turn off announcer's commentary - Not sure what causes new boards, outfits, or characters to appear. (Would be better if I knew what I had to do to get better gear.) - Unable to play the computer in match race mode. - Would be nice to have control over replay to see slow-mo and different angles, like in NFL2K. Overall, I am loving this game and still striving to surpass all the high scores. Would recommend it without a doubt.

Great fun, but where is Time Trial?Dec 06, 1999
I love this game and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a good time. I did notice right away that there was no way to practice the courses before you took it out for a run with checkpoints. It got highly frusterating at first because you did not know what lie ahead because you can not practice the course. Even when you beat the course you can't just liesurely go down the course because you have to reach the checkpoints. As much of a dissapointment as that was I did love this game. The graphics are great and once you master the tricks they are so cool and so much fun. I played the half-pipe for over an hour just trying to beat the top score. It is not like other games where the scores are easy to beat. Due to no difficulty selection you have to be at least moderately good at the game to do anything. No one could just sit down and play it. The tracks are extremely beautiful with many unique backgrounds. At a point in the game you are boarding on roof tops. The boarders are not very inspiring, but you get over that quickly. I wish there were more boards to choose from and some more original board designs. All of them look the same size and the same width. This game was really fun, but it could have been the best game if it had a free ride mode and a difficulty setting. I hope this review was helpful.

Not just another "boredin" gameDec 10, 1999
If you like boading games like CoolBoarders or 1080 you'll like Rippin Riders. The graphics put any other boardin game to shame. The tracks are sick with awesome backrounds. The characters are off the hook. I love DJ Ken, he's fat, got two turntables and sports a hawaiian shirt. One guy has a MIB suit and a football uniform complete with helmet. The tricks are extreme, one level I can pull a 2540. Triple backflips and helicopter spins are common. Every character also has signature moves. Every character is so different in style that it's almost a new game with each one. You have to master the style of every rider. When the game is first played many options will be locked so you have to beat all the levels to unlock the various tracks, boards, costumes and players. The game has awesome replays. The graphics on two player mode suffer quite a bit, but game play makes up for it. Play head to head and every trick you hit takes part of your opponents screen until until your opponent can no longer see where he's going. It's pretty fun. The game is very (near extremely) difficult to master. To achieve first place rankings on the tracks you will have to have the track completely memorized and hit perfect tricks off every hit. To pull tricks is also tough to master, and landing - forget about it. I play this game every night and have unlocked maybe half off the games features. It is the first true gamers boardin game. You can't pick this game up and master it in a night or two, but when you get the hang of it there are no limits to what you can do.

Good One Player, Great Two PlayerNov 16, 1999
For those of you how don't know, this game is actually a port of the Japanese dreamcast game "Cool Boarders Burnnn." Basically, Sega couldn't call the game Cool Boarders because Sony owns the rights to the name. Anyway, Rippin Riders is a good game that can never get over the hump to be a great game. The graphics on the game are fantastic. When your ride through the church on the second level your jaw will drop. The controls are very good but not perfect. There will be times when you will miss a move because the button combos just don't feel right. So where is the problem, when the game itself is just a little dull. It can't decide if it wants to be a stunt game or a racing game. The main courses have to much riding and not enought rippin. Of course the stunt pipe is included for those who want to see how close they can come to death by pulling off the perfect trick. What saves this game is the two player mode. First of all the graphics lose no detail when going from one to two players, amazing. Plus, having someone else on the course to race really adds to the fun of the game. Never underestimate the trash talk factor. Overall, Rippin riders just falls short of greatness. Fans of the other coodboarders games (at least the first two which were actually progamed by UEP systems who did this game) will find a lot here to like. As for everyone else. Rent it or better yet let your friend who gets every game buy it get board of it and then get it from him cheap.
