Pretty good...Dec 07, 2004
I'm 13 and this game entertains me. It's not necessarlily the best, like the Ratchet and Clank series. This game would be good for younger audiences like children 6 to 9. Tak and the Power of Juju and Tak 2: the Staff of Dreams video games are just like this game. I would recommend all 3 of these games to younger game players.

A VISUAL FEAST FOR PEOPLE WHO LIKE GLOWING THINGS....Feb 04, 2005
By Damien Lambert
"The good Bad Boy"
I bought Scaler yesterday for $20 because I missed the jovial nature of platformers. Due to the influx of games that require re-mapped button schemes and "thinking", I decided to give my brain and stealth tendencies a rest and pick this one up.
FIRST OFF, I played this for 3 hours and got to the third level. The game has 10 in all folks!!!! and honestly, I wasn't really trying that hard. On several occassions i redid parts just to acquire the maximum number of "Klokkies". I also attacked everything in sight ( even the trees look like they can hurt you), and took a swim quite a few times OVERJUMPING certain platforms.
Honestly, This is a game where I actually want to take my time playing. It's easy, VERY EASY, but has charm and a heck of a lotta pretty *bleep*!! The colors are as viibrant as the dull PS2 can muster and the character designs are through the roof. Sometimes you just want to stop and watch an enemy before you easily murder it in a fit of claws and tongue. Scaler himself is sleek and cool, and wisecracking to boot. A very 90's lizard. His saving gace (and a very fun feature) is his ability to morph into specific enemies he's beaten. VERY CUTE AND ENDEARING, but also a change of pace from the Ol' tongue 'n' claw attack as the "morphs" have moves of their own.
Ultimately, I'm glad i bought it for it's uniqueness and style, but also sad that it it so short and unchallenging. WHY DOES THIS GAME GIVE YOU UNLIMITED LIVES? it doesn't punish you for falling off a cliff or dying, and that makes it even easier to beat!
GRAPHICS- 8.6 inventive, colorful, with great character designs
PRESENTATION-9.0 same look and feel throughout the game. The boards are a visual feast, but not as open as they appear to be.
CONTROL-8.8 once you get use to how he jumps, everything else falls into place. not many buttons to master. Morphing and "vine surfing" are the highlites of this title. Think Sonic as a Lizard at times. The camera doesn't face opponent at times, so be sharp with rotating view and center.....
FUN FACTOR-8.7 I did play for three hours my first time.....Unfortunately, a quarter of the game is completed! It's VERY EASY. However, if colors, glowing things, and lizards float your boat, get the title.
REPLAY VALUE- 7.5 You might pop this one in again to beat on a sunday evening, or to inspire you if you're an artist and wild about herpetology (like i am).

This game is great!Nov 23, 2007
Hello, this is the son of the owner of this account. I rented this game when I was like, 10, or somthin',(That rhymes)and I am now 13. This game is probably one of the best I've ever played! Scaler, a fighter for lizard freedom rights, is thrown into a world that you wouldn't even dream in your dreams, and is changed into the spieces he fights for. Humor rating is off the charts, and the actual storyline is good too! I really hope you buy this game.
Fun little platformer, but can get repetitiveMar 13, 2012
By Amul Scaler is a platforming game about a young boy who gets turned into a lizard. You start with two simple attacks--a tongue lick reminiscent somewhat of Yoshi's licking ability in the Mario games, and a scratch attack. As you progress through the game, you learn new transformations that change the gameplay on certain levels. However, you are restricted to using only one transformation on any given level, which somewhat limits your creativity with using them--each level is designed with a particular transformation in mind, though, so it actually works pretty well. Other than using the transformations, most of the levels consist of jumping segments, crawling segments (some stealth-like gameplay is provided with a camouflage ability), fighting segments, or gliding on rails segments. Even though the gameplay can get a little repetitive at times, playing through these parts still feels satisfying. There are also boss battles that help mix up the monotony a little bit. There are also 10 egg collectibles on each level, which can make the levels feel longer (often it can feel like a hassle trying to find them all, but it's normally not too annoying). Overall, it's a fairly fun and challenging game, with a decent number of levels to play overall, and anyone who enjoys a platforming game will probably enjoy most of this game.

Meh...Mar 29, 2010
By Hannah A. Easterson I got this game a looong time ago, I was probably about fourteen or thirteen. I never enjoyed it. It was cheesy, childish, but also irritating. The story was meant for someone half my age, but there were levels that I had trouble, and still have trouble getting through, as they are winding, lack direction and purpose, and all look alike to me. Everything is very repetitive. Really, only one level is necessary, as after that you have essentially fought every minion that ever crops up, and likely already figured out the plot.I figured out the story after maybe the second cutscene, and every plot twist was as predictable as I had hoped it wouldn't be. Clearly it was written for a much younger audience, given by the acidic colors, simplicity of the gameplay, and juvinility of the jokes, for example Bobby's brilliant comback of "butt breath" after being threatened by one of the major villians in the beginning.
In the game, you play a boy named Bobby Jenkins who has stumbled across his evil neighbor's diabolical plot, that somehow involves shapeshifting lizards. As punishment for discovering him, he turns you into said shapeshifting lizard and banishes you a lizardy universe.
The game play consists of three or four basic controls, that are then used to clear each level, which contain a horde of arcade-like lizard enemies and some puzzles. The levels mostly consist of retreiving lizard eggs and bringing them back to a designated place, so that you can advance to the next level. There are also gems that can be collected, although all they do is serve to unlock an alternate ending if they are all collected. There is also a very rachet-and-clank-eqsue (or sonic the hedgehog for that matter) type 'vine riding' where the main character slides along vines to build a 'bomb charge', collect things, or simply reach another area of the level. Also, over the course of the game, you gain the ability to transform into a grand total of five different lizards that all come with their own necesary abilities, such as invisibility and rolling explosives; however these are only available on a limited number of the worlds, at specific times.
I am a big RPG, story/puzzle gamer. And maybe that's the problem I had with it, as the story was not very engaging and the puzzles relied more on your ability to survive while completeing them, rather than having to really think to figure them out. I found the gameplay irritating and formulaic; although, I suppose, if you were playing just to kick some lizard-butt, rather than have any sort of mental engagement, it might be slightly more amusing.
All in all it's a vveeeerrry basic platformer game. With graphics that consist of bright neon glowing colors (largely green) that only serve to cause the levels, and the enemies for that matter, to blend entirely into eachother. I would suggest that anyone over the age of twelve wear sunglasses, to prevent permanent retinal damage.
Also negetively, it's only fun once. Once completed, theres really nothing left to go back to, if it's even fun THAT many times. Over the years, I tend to return to my games when I'm bored, and have played almost all of them three or more times, regardless of the fact that I have completed every element of it before. Scaler took me years to finish, because it was just so very dull. I haven't returned to it since.
