Hardware review Sega Saturn Ascii stickFeb 04, 2010

If a standard Saturn controller isn't doing it for you on all of them fighting games then the Saturn Ascii stick might be up your alley. The lay out is great Street Fighter games like Capcom Generation 5 Street Fighter collection Street Fighter Alpha 1&2 Street Fighter Zero 3 (JAP) you'll need the action replay card for X Men vs Street Fighter (JAP) again action replay comes in handy. I even used it on Gaurdian Heroes & it was good too it is very good with King Of Fighters 97 cause I went to options & changed the controlls to SNK style. I like the style of the stick it's more western. This is as good as my Hori arcade stick for my PS3 if you love fighting games & own a Saturn & don't own this stick this goes hand in hand.

Great alternative to classic gamepadNov 11, 2010
By Kevis Hendrickson The Ascii Saturn Stick is a sleek and well-designed joystick for the Sega Saturn. As a gamer who grew up haunting the old arcades, I prefer to use joysticks for arcade style games such as Street Fighter and 2D shooters. Where the Ascii Stick excels over the first party produced Sega Virtua Stick is that it features the new style joystick which is more ergonomic and lacks the ball-shaped top of old school joysticks. This means that it is far easier to pull off quarter circle moves which are a staple of Capcom fighting games than the Virtua Stick. My biggest complaint about the Ascii Stick is that the joystick seems too loose and wobbles at the slightest touch. Ultimately, this gives the joystick a "cheap" feel and diminishes what is otherwise a very well-produced joystick. One other sore spot for me is the design/placement of the L and R buttons. Sega wisely designed the L and R buttons of the Virtua stick in the shape of a half circle, making it much easier for you to tell when you are using the L and R buttons vs. the main buttons (a,b,c,x,y,z). Another feature lacking from the Ascii Joystick are the indented buttons used on the Virtua Stick which also helps you to determine which button you are pressing without looking down.
If the Virtua Stick is so well-designed, why should you buy the Ascii Stick? For starters, the Ascii Stick is superior for Capcom fighting games. The ball-shaped joystick of the Virtua Stick is not as intuitive for pulling off fireballs in Street Fighter. Also, because the Virtua Stick is primarily designed for the tap-tap style of game play found in Sega/SNK styled fighting games, it is prone to breaking because the plastic neck of the joystick gets worn out when the gamer frequently uses quarter circle moves. The Ascii Stick's modern style joystick is better designed for quarter circle moves. If nothing else, the Ascii Stick looks cooler than the Virtua Stick. It's smaller and has all the sexy curves you'd find on a Porsche! If you can only buy one arcade style joystick for your Sega Saturn, I'd recommend the Sega Virtua Stick. But the Ascii Saturn Stick may actually be the superior joystick depending on what kind of games you play. Highly recommended.
