An Accomplishment in Gaming & One of the Finest on the DS.Oct 01, 2011
By Kyle M. Wallace CyberConnect2 is mostly known for the popular PS2 dot Hack series and various Naruto titles. A little known title they made was called Tail Concerto,(for the PS1) which featured very similarly styled art and characters to Solatorobo. It's fantastic to see the company still intact, and still making games that are their own.
Solatorobo aesthetics are some of the most whimsical and intelligently designed on the DS. The hardware limitations gives us beautifully crafted 2D/3D backgrounds with polygons and sprites blending seamlessly together. It feels like a Playstation One game, and not just technically - It really feels like an adventure that could've loved as a ten year old, and still love today; even though I'm more than a decade older than that.
The game is mostly comprised of a quest/rank system, but has a truly magical battle system that I think accomplishes with smart finese what every action RPG title wants to have.
The magic in the battle gameplay is brought to life through a cleverly designed and simple combat system. The system really only involves one mechanic and develops it through combo systems and an enjoyable upgrade system.
Throwing.
That's right! You throw things, and enemies to damage them. With your robot of course! It's really fun and makes combat a bit more endearing than your typical adventure RPG combat of button mashing, and/or developing spell strategies or what not. It has a simple, but endearing combo system that involves jumping and throwing in different combinations to effectively keep enemies toppled long enough to do big damage.
It's an adventure, and not only does it feel grand - it feels manageable, which is very important to me when it comes to games these days. On top of that, as a dog lover, It's really cool to see a world mostly comprised of dog-people. It's kind of silly, but it works, and I love it.
Solatorobo is not ground-breaking, but it does have something that most games lack, and it isn't vision or creativity. It's pure love and polish. Solatorobo has both. No one was trying to be impressive with this game, but they were trying to be perfect, and they've accomplished that quite well.
The bottom line here, is that just like Andy was saying', the DS is far from dead and in fact is getting some of its best content right now.
Solatorobo is one of the best titles of the year. It's delightful.

Solatorobo: Red the Hunter......Sep 27, 2011
By blackaciddevil I wouldn't be surprised, in the least, to find this game being voted the "Best Game of 2011". Despite its' odd title, Solatorobo: Red the Hunter has to be one of the most lovingly crafted games I've ever played. Solatorobo, which literally means "Sky and Robots" in Japanese, tells the tale of a sky pirate named Red who rides around in an airship searching for adventure amongst a world of floating islands. What begins as your simple action-RPG soon turns into something a bit more elaborate. You go on quests that range from the normal item hunting and whatnot to air races and the like.
I think what I like most about the game is the attention to story and the development of the characters you encounter. There's quite a bit of dialogue between characters but not so much that it'll turn you off from the game. In fact, if it does anything- it will make you care about the characters even more. Cutscenes bring out the most exciting points in the story and are quite welcome, in my opinion. I'm told it's the spiritual sequel to a little-known PS1 RPG called Tail Concerto. While I haven't played that game, I hear it's a pretty good one.
My only dislike about the game is that challenges in the game aren't hard at all. Mildly challenging, at best.
Still, Solatorobo: Red the Hunter is still worth a look. While I hadn't finished it yet, I'm in love with the game. Here's hoping Cyberconnect2 sees enough success with this game that we see a sequel to it alot sooner than Tail Concerto did(which took some 13 years).

This game deserves to be praisedOct 07, 2011
By Bestia-Shawn The nintendo DS has been known to have a huge library of awesome games like Pokemon, Dragon Quest, The World ends with you, Mario, the newly released Kirby game and of course Zelda. But it has also a huge ton of awesome games, maybe even better than those already mentioned, that will never be recognized as much as the "big name character games" out there, some may not even sell 10,000 copies at all...
Well I think this game will fall into that category sadly... but maybe this simple review will attract some hearts and make this a sleeper hit for a handheld console that will remain in our hearts as the best handheld console of all time.
Where to start? Well how about the art of the game? it's beautiful, well designed, anime style characters resembles a lot to the Naruto anime some may like. the ships look cool as well also the background and atmosphere of the game feels like playing in a world straight out of a Final Fantasy game. Actually to me feels more like Xenogears(lol). Well the art is simply amazing, you'll end up wondering how did they get that to work like that on a handheld game, not even the PSP could make something look soo advanced. And it's not even a 3DS game!
The battle system is quite simple, fun and original but really super easy. You throw things at enemies or grab them and throw them, and sometimes you can combo and bounce em like a basketball. sounds simple? it is. feels like zelda, musashi, you get it action type rpgs.
Story? your typical sky pirate style anime with the anti hero laid back main character whose really a bad ass at what he does, with his crazy, smart and technical partner that get involved into some really heavy $#!% and have to save the day cause they're the chosen ones. wow....that actually sounds a helluva lotta fun! like cowboy bebop, and outlaw star!
the packaging comes with it's own CD and the music sounds fun and ok. now really thrilled with it. but the CD case looks awesome and the art on it really admireing. Silly and pointless thing to like, but hey at least it comes with a CD, tell Mario to come up with something better for his games instead of the same game everytime! *whew* sorry about that...
Well that's my review for this game, it's a really good game. A numbers rating will not do justice over this. Just try it. I really recommend it.
*Other games that you might not know about that I personally own and highly recommend: -Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey -Radiant Historia -Etrian Odyssey III(hard one...but worth it) -Dementium II (The first one isn't that good) -Knights in the Nightmare -The Dark Spire
Take Care guys, SHawn

Fun, if easy.Oct 25, 2011
By S. Law The Good: Very atmospheric and interesting setting Fun gameplay Lot of cameo's and easter eggs from previous Cyberconnect2 games Interesting, if a bit trope filled, storyline to keep you playing. Lots of optional extra's to collect that give the world a nice bit of background
The Bad: Game bogs down in larger battles Audio drops here and there The dash and high jump function being combined to the 'B' button can lead to some frustrations With two possible exception of two missions, not a terribly challenging game.
The Ugly: Trying to read reviews and opinions of this game and having to go through all the folks who hate this game because it's a 'furry' game.
Overall, not a bad game at all. If you're looking for a light, fun RPG to kill time with, or a game for kids who aren't familiar with games, this is a very good pirchase and would definitely recommend buying. If you're an experienced gamer with hundreds of hours in JRPGs, you will definitely find the difficulty lacking in this game, and may get bored with it. In that case I would recommend renting before buying. However its always nice to show the developer and Nintendo that we do buy these games and should get more of them localized (I.E. Last Story!)
