4over the top shooterDec 31, 2007
By Stephen J. Janeczko "Flaco"
This game may not be the most realistically accurate shooting game out there, but who cares! Its just a game! I bought this and Call of Duty 4 at the same time and asmuch as I like Call of Duty I would have to say that this game has some advantages. For instance, you can shoose which guns you uses before each level. Also you can customize each one with differnt types of sights, silencers, ect. The over the top violence is graphic as can be since you are able to blow off limbs with just one shot which is then followed by a blood spray that would make George Romero cringe.

All in all, no, it's not the best shooter out there, but it is still fun in it's own way if your in the mood for senseless violence with a lot of blood.

2Not the FPS to get for the PS3Nov 30, 2007
By Phantasmagoria
This is a very basic FPS with very long load times and ALOT of unlockable weapons that open as you complete missions. The problem is that while the controls aren't broken they are just so basic as are the environments that you can help but stave off the yawns as you split apart the bodies of your foes with some fairly cool and powerful weapons. SOF Payback is also following on the heels of COD4 which has set a new standard for FPS gaming. The graphics are mediocre the gameplay is nothing more than shooting one villian after another with occasional demoltion missions. Boring generic and too late to the party this game is almost guaranteed to disappoint in practically every facet, my advice is try out every other NEXT GEN FPS before you give this one a shot as I suspect it might be the bottom of the barrel.

1SOF dissapointmentJul 14, 2008
By Cauzmo
This game is a complete dissapointment. Sof Payback is a downgrade from Sof Double Helix. The landscape/body modeling, and the variety of weapons are the only positive gains. The story line is uncreative and very generic. Gameplay lasts about 4.5 hours on normal. Activsion was obviously trying to sell the name and hope that us Sof Veterans would blindly go out and buy the game. If you have to play this RENT IT, don't waste your money buying it. Listed below are the negatives that I discovered while playing.
1. No Random Mission Generator
2. Unbalanced enemy AI
3. Faulty Partical Physics "bullets hitting you while your behind solid cover"
4. Very toned down gore. "blood spray and detachable limbs is the full extent"
5. Short ultra linear missions
6. Sniper rifles with no missions that would deem one worthwile
7. Clanky controls
8. Questionable Replay Value

4Not the best shooter, but fun nonetheless.Dec 31, 2008
By John Gonzalez "Bulletstorm"
Ok, so this is not the best fps out there for any system. The graphics could have been better and a lot could have been implemented in the gameplay. But for some reason, I just keep want to keep on playing this game. The weapons are pretty cool, and I like how you fight a "boss" at the end of every stage. The gore is cool, not too realistic, but nice to have.

Some of the problems I encountered were I got shot when I was in cover, and sometimes my gun would just kill an enemy when I clearly was off range. I guess it works in my advantage. Online play is Rainbow Six Black Arrow fun, but you will only find a handful of games to play. Maybe a total of 30 people play in the entire server.

Overall, for me, this game is fun if you are looking to just run and gun. But if you are more of a tactical, graphic seeker, Call of Duty 4 fanatic, then this might not be the game for you.

5Underrated - This game rocks !Jun 04, 2008
By T. R. Schwark
This game has been trashed by the Video game reviews, and even players for various reasons. Let me start off by saying a) I have no interest in online play (I'm not 13, and able to play excessively) - So a 1 player campaign is preferrable b.) I've finished COD4 and I PREFER Soldier of Fortune..why? Because I get to actually see damage occur to my victims, for one, adds alot of realism, than to watch them just fall down in COD4...also, I get to use a SNIPER rifle , or any weapon...where COD4 , outside of an early "Sniper Mission", I just mow down excessive number of soldiers with an automatic weapon all game with COD4... The AI has been questioned, but its not SO bad.., alot like Castle of Wolfenstein (old days)..

Actually COD4 would tee me off as my own computer mates would get in my way..and COD4 AI isnt flawless by any means...

So if you want to have fun, and some "realism" to your enemies damage, pick it up. It was $39 , and I think well worth it. I love this game.
