Not As Good As Prior Versions But Still A Solid Golf GameJun 22, 2010 The opinions on this game seem to be rather polarized, but the truth is in the middle. While this is still a very good golf game, it's not as good as previous iterations. Let's examine the pros and cons.
Pros:
Decent graphics
Many different types of gameplay
The new confidence meter is an improvement
Cons:
May lack compatibility with newer Op Systems
Took away a lot of features from prior versions, some of which were really fun
Lack of in depth and challenging courses
THE BUSHES!!
Let me begin by addressing each of the pros and cons. The graphics are decent overall, some facets are pretty good, such as the waves moving alone Pebble Beach, and some are meh, e.g. your created golfer may look very cartoon-ish. I do have to complain a bit, as they're not much improved over 2005 or 2006.
There are many types of gameplay, such as stroke play, Stableford, matches, Skins play and even online play. This is basically the most you can ask from an ordinary golf game, the only thing they forgot was putt-putt!
The new confidence meter is really very cool, as it eliminates pure reliance on the attribute improvements. Your confidence can go up substantially over the course of a full season or even multiple years. There are also occasionally added bonuses, for free, e.g. the game lets you suddenly take a lesson in putting or the short-game and your confidence in that department goes way up! However, if you're not doing well, you will only suffer a little bit for it. You can turn it around in a reasonable manner.
Now, the cons.
Several people have said this may not work with certain versions of Windows 7 and even Vista. I actually did get it to work, though with a good bit of freezing and crashing, in W7 Ultimate via compatibility mode.
I miss some of the removed features of prior versions, like getting to play against the all time greats, the ability to win some of the gear instead of only being able to purchase it, etc.
Yet the biggest issue is the lack of challenging courses. So many of them are not only easy, but they also feel exactly the same, with only the graphics seeming a bit different. The bit of good news is that you can easily find a ton of other courses to make the game interesting for free, and online.
One of my biggest complaints that has stayed around from past years is the difficulty of hitting the darned ball out of the simple bushes! I've used max power with heavy woods and yet the bushes seem to be made out of metal, as they simply repel the ball. I
Overall, it's a good game and a shame that EA gave up on PC gaming. It's just a sign of their greed and laziness, I guess. If you have $10 and need a good golf game for PC, I certainly endorse this version unless you have 2005 or 2006, in which case, you aren't in need of this version.

Eagle !May 16, 2010 Advantages: (A) Great Graphics especially if run at greater than 800x600 on a quality monitor (B)Fantastic controls(true swing V) and realistic game physics (C) Wonderful avatar creation machine (I've created 5 stunningly beautiful pro female golfing avatars (D) The current 10 dollar price (E) Although my version is a digital download from the EA website I've encountered no Securom or obtrusive DRM schemes with this game. (F) 14, I believe pro golf courses modeled to spec. (G) Contours in the greens that you can actually see as opposed to the 2007 version of this game. (H) Hotkey camera angle control(try 5, 4, 2, 1, 6 all extremely useful, especially 4 and 5) (I) The ability to save in tournament progress(gives you a huge advantage to be able to quit rounds in progress and come back to them later) Most folks (I'd bet all) having problems with this PC version of the game are not meeting the hardware specs. I have a core 2 quad 2.33ghz x4 cpu and an ati 4670 ddr3 1gb graphics card and a 23 inch HP w2338h monitor. The graphics are just wonderful. I don't know how they could be improved. The 2008 PC version runs perfect on Vista Home Premium 64 bit SP2 for me. Get Auslogics Boost Speed(49.95 for 3 computer license) and run the defragger and boost speed scanner daily. It takes just a few minutes and for all practical purposes ends any potential glitches with the game. You don't have to disable firewall or virus protection. That's absurd ! Now a few things that could have been better (1) What's up with these stealthy out of bounds zones ? I thought I just hit it in the rough ! (2) Tired of the reappetitive commentary of McCormick and Flaherty ? Turn em down in sound options and or play a Windows Media Setlist in the background. (3) Okay so one of my golfing goddesses goes 33 under at TPC Sawgrass for a 4 round event and the game asks me if I want to increase my difficulty level. Say WHAT ! Are you INSANE ! What incentive do I have to do that ? (4) Which leads me to the conclusion that there are no meaningful incentives offered by the game. 50 grand buys you all the clothes and nic knacks you could possibly want or need and all the money after that is pretty much meaningless ! If you love golf and don't mind thinking about your shots and enduring a learning curve then I wholeheartedly recommend this game. If you're looking for an easy video golfing arcade game that you can just zip through mindlessly perhaps this isn't the game for you. You will get frustrated ! Hint: 1st round games are always the toughest because of the confidence factor. You'll have to endure a few very strange looking(sometimes unnatural) shots so I go into 'survival mode' (playing with patience and taking no undue risks). Once the 1st round struggle is complete and hopefully you got out with something close to par your scores will improve with each subsequent round as you complete the confidence training. On true swing novice I have a winning percentage of about 80% thus far so this strategy does work.
Good productMay 09, 2010 The analog control was very hard for me to get used to. Seems to have needless cut scenes between each shot. Tiger reacts to his shot. Tiger gets ready for the next shot. Tiger approaches the ball. Just let me swing!!

DisappointedMar 08, 2010 This is a neat game that doesn't work well on my computer. I don't know if it is my computer or the game itself. The program freezes up and has to be restarted. My computer meets all system requirements for this game. I am very disappointed.
