2One step forward... two steps back...Jun 10, 2010
By Tyler Barnes "Terence"
I will start by saying that I'm a fan of the Tiger Woods PGA Tour franchise. The best years in my opinion were the last couple (09 and 10). With last years game being so great, I was excited to get 11. I was disappointed to say the least. EA try to do too many changes... some were helpful but most changes took away from the game. I'll just go with the old and trusty pro and con list.

Pros:
Addition of the Ryder Cup
Sharper graphics
Better online play
Face maker is a little better but still lacking.

Cons:
EA went to an XP only system which is spent in skills and pro shop items... In the older games, I enjoyed making money and buying new clubs etc, also making loads of money just like the pros, especially during the majors. Now you have to focus 100% on putting your XP into skill and it doesn't seem the big tourneys make a difference... Why the change????

Ghostly limbs will grab your ball out of nowhere.

Making your player better through XP points starting out isn't realistic... You pretty much put all your points into power to have a chance in tourneys.

Where's Augusta? How hard could it be to get that license? No Masters this year....

EA still haven't fixed the view problem... the one I'm referring to is the when you hit the ball on certain occasions, the view changes to something way in the distance and you can't see how to spin your ball.

Ryder Cup takes a long time to play, 80% of the time is being spent watching the other players hit.

A Downloadable course is available... 1 course for 800 MS points!!! Why?

The players haven't been updated in a while, they still have Dimarco, Montgomerie, and others that should have been replaced years ago by recent players that are doing well currently.

Conclustion:
I know it seems I've been hard on the game but I would have loved to save $60 and played Tiger Woods 10 again (I miss the money and the great situationals). I had to give it only two stars due to making a product sub par to the previous 3 titles. Next year they must bring the money factor back, newer players, and hopefully a more realistic looking set-up, swing, and divot action. The game is ok at best to play but very frustrating if you played the previous titles.

3Fun Fore All ?Aug 31, 2010

Excuse the bad review title. I try to be creative...
The Tiger Woods franchise hasn't been known to revolutionize the golf genre, or does the series contribute enough new material for casual fans to buy a new copy every single year. With the Tiger Woods franchise, your better off skipping buying it every other year. Trust me, you wont be missing much. Hardcore fans on the other hand, you may buy it regardless.

TW11 brings some major improvements in the realm of difficulty options. The True Aim camera does create a slightly more realistic approach to setting up your shots, and causing players to remember to adjust for carry + roll. While this is a worthy addition, it still has some flaws. Instead of the camera just switching to a first person perspective of your golfer, it zooms slightly in , past the golfer, and they stays in place regardless of what's in front of it. At times, grass or hills can block your view entirely. In these instances, your golfers actual view is much better, but the camera detaches in such a way that you cant even see where the ball landed. At least you don't have to actually search for the ball, and your comfortably set up for your next shot. Still, this can be annoying when hitting out of bunkers and the camera zooms into the sand or grassy hill leaving you blind of where the ball ended up. I feel this is something that certainly could have been fixed if EA had taken some time to perfect this new camera system, which they obviously did not spend much time on.

EA finally realized the clouds in the sky never moved, and the clothing on the golfers never moved, and so we are now able to see the sky change throughout an 18 hole round, and our clothes blow in the wind. Is it cool? Sure.... but you'll soon forget all about it. In my opinion these small details (more so the non-static sky ) should have been implemented years ago. This is the "next-gen " system era, and your telling me that in the past 2 years you just now realized that the sky should actually move, clothes ripple, and there be actual changes in weather and wind in real time?? I seem to be the only one to notice that with these new physics, the overall graphics of the game took a hit this year. The colors seems a bit washed out , as do the player models. Go ahead and compare last year to this year, its not hard to spot the difference. I wonder if the new physics caused a slight scale down in overall graphical quality? I think so.

The main thing here is if it's worth your time and money to purchase and play this years TW. If you own 10, are happy with it and are not seeking any more of challenge, then just wait until 2012. If you always felt the TW series has been more on the arcade-ish side and want a more difficult round of golf using the True-Aim, then go ahead and give it a shot. It certainly wont mimick the difficulties of real golf, but its obvious EA knows they need to appeal to casual gamers with the TW series and have made more of an effort to do so, then create an actual golf simulation. So don't expect a sim feel, but it does prove to be more challenging.

I have read numerous reviews from gaming websites, and I dont feel the people reviewing the Tiger Woods series are even true golf fans. If EA put as much attention to detail as they do their other sport franchises, they would motion capture more pro swings and create a much livelier commentary and crowd. For the casual golf gamer, these things dont mean much, but if your going to slap the "PGA Tour" in the title, maybe you could really create a great presentation of what professional golf feels like and implement some more camera angles to choose from, enhanced crowd physics ( all the crowd members tend to react the same at the same time) , and add some life to the boring commentary team you throw together every year.

Lots of nice little improvements here, but if you have 2010, and have even purchased additional courses, keep it. They raised downloadable course prices this year and its really not worth buying them again. EA doesnt seem to want you to be able to carry over courses you already purchased, and they released over 10 additional since this games release, and they want you to shell out $5-10 for each one. No thanks EA.

The Ryder Cup is cool once or twice, but its not going to keep you coming back. Lots of pro golfers here, but they didn't bother to get 90% of their actual swings in the game. Again , casual fans wont care, but EA should remember that with the monster grip they have on golf games right now, maybe they could throw true golf fans some surprises.

NOTE: If your buying this used, make sure you are aware of EA's new online pass code. Each new copy allows only that user to go online. EA claims they have such a great online experience, that everyone should pay for it. So if you buy this used, you may have to buy the additional code from EA for $10. Worth it? Not quite.

2As others said, "One Step Forward, TWO Steps Back!!!"Jun 30, 2010
By N. Samotis
Two things I'm going to say for this game.

1. Putting Suc** - focusing 98% on the "putting meter" than on the player/club itself when putting.

2. XP points - what a load of crap. ***Wheres the money????

Everything else I'll go a long with.

***Buyers, wait till next year for PGA 2012, maybe it's be better, but for now PGA 09 is what I play.

3An incrementally small improvement over 2010Jun 25, 2010
By T. A. ENGLE
If you've played Tiger Woods video games in previous years, there isn't much of a change. Its a decent game of golf, but suffers from EA Sports not willing to go the extra mile and put more realism and depth in the game.

Pros/Cons
+ Focus meter adds some strategy
+ True aim is a nice camera feature that is more challenging and more realistic
+ More crisp looking graphics
+ Putting isn't as overly simple as last year
- The above changes really shouldn't have required too much effort from the design team to change...i.e. they couldn't easily added an online update to last year's game for FREE.
+ EA offers downloadable courses on XBOX Live
- However, downloaded courses were in previous years versions of the game
- EA only offers ONE course at a time for download??? what a complete insulting rip-off...I'm not apposed to download content, but 1 course for 800 Microsoft points is robbery....how about 3 or 4 NEW courses (...not retreads!)
- Online lobbies and matchmaking are cumbersome and settings are limiting...in short it's far too hard to find a fun match
- Still no out of bounds markers and no ability to determine your drop location
- Finding fairways in regulation is FAR FAR too easy.
- That said, if you do happen to hit the wrong fairway or get too far off the beaten path, you just get the generic "out of bounds" notification
+/- New XP system is better than the performance based system, still being able to max out a golfer is kinda lame
? At this rate, they'll have the missing features of real golf added in maybe 10 years!

Who will save us from the EA monopoly of golf video games? Maybe upcoming Pro Stroke golf?

4Nice ChangesJun 11, 2010
By James R. Gustafson
I am very happy with the changes EA has made from last year. I only play on Tour Pro and like the game to be challenging meaning no spin after the shot and all the power boost stuff. The addition of the true aim makes shooting under par a challenge. No more aim circle for perfect shots.
The graphics don't look much better than last year to me. Having a moving sky and variable winds is a nice touch though.
I actually really like the XP system. I can now have some control over how skilled my created golfer is. The game stopped being fun in the past once my guy was hitting 350 yard drives all the time right down the middle. I can now keep the game realistic where my scores are not -18 every round.
The only negative I can find is the price of the DLC which is stupid because you can't use it in your season and is no good next year. I would also like to see a patch for true aim that shows how far you hit your drive.
