5The Best Skating game Ever!!Oct 30, 2003
By matt
This game is the greatest! You can create your own trick, you can create your own level like the others but this park editor is far more detailed and has far more parts that you can use for your park. This game also lets you create a skater but the awesome thing is is that the skater can have YOUR FACE! What you do is you take a picture of your face, cat car whatever, go to www.thugonline.com, send your pic in, then it will be sent to your email as a ps2 save file in one or two min. and there you go! Another great thing about this game is the player is not just your face and body and what not, but the skater is a story of you. You start out as yourself an amateur skater, no publicity or anything. Work hard enough and go through all the missions and you can be a superstar. Another great thing about this game is that it takes after some of the greatest games made, such as Grand Theft Auto 3, because you can steal cars and get off your board!!!! Yes thats right you can get off your board and hang on roofs and shimmy as much as you want! You can even do a super jump by holding the ollie button! It also takes after Metal Gear Solid 2, because you can get off your board and go back to back to walls. This game has 9 huge levels so be ready for a great long gaming experience. All in all this game is going to be one of the greatest thing thats happened to the gaming world. THUG (Tony Hawk's UnderGround) is rated T for Teen for strong language, blood and mature scenes. This game is like THPS 4 times 1,000,000,000,000,000,000, This is a great buy.

4Good but over-hypedNov 06, 2003
By Robert Graves
Don't get me wrong - this is a good game. I just think some of the "ground-breaking" elements it's supposed to contain aren't really that ground-breaking.

In Underground you are to progress through a story mode by which you start with nothing and end up as king of the skating world, all the while battling your once-friend-turned-enemy Eric. Throughout the story you complete several goals and missions to progress on to the next level. Once completing the story mode you unlock a secret level, a Kiss Concert arena, which is one of the coolest levels, by the way.

At this point you can return to previous levels and search for all the hidden goodies, learn new tricks, create your own tricks, or create a park for that matter. It's definitely an improvement over Tony Hawk 4 and is clearly the definitive skateboarding simulator.

First I'll give you the positives. The game has a great deal of online features allowing you to share parks, tricks, etc. online, as well as compete in online tournaments. It also seems to be very faithful to presenting a real simulation of skating and doesn't allow you to defy physics too much, except for the rail rides and surviving horrific falls.

Now the hype.

Underground is lauded as a game that let's you "get off your board and walk around." Um...have you ever played a game called "Grand Theft Auto?" You can walk around - and do a whole lot more. I'm sorry, I don't really find the fact that you can "walk" to be earth-shattering.

I also feel the game is a little *too* real. For example, take SSX. This is a game that gives you a real sense of controlling a snowboarder careening down a mountain, but at the same time let's you completely disobey gravity at your will. Underground isn't really like this. If you are actually a skater I'm sure that compared to reality the Tony Hawk games are awe-inspiring, but to a non-skater the air tricks are rather underwhelming and don't look all that different from what you see on ESPN2. While this is in some ways good I suppose, it leaves me wanting to be able to do more spectacular stunts.

The controls are pretty jerky. One thing I've never liked about the Tony Hawk series is the erratic control and Underground doesn't fix it. One little move and suddenly you're facing the other direction.

Lastly, the story-mode is pretty short. The only game in the series I've played is Tony Hawk 4 (so I'm not a hardened veteran) and I finished the game in only a few days with moderate playing.

I gave the game 4 stars so obviously I liked it, and yes, it's a good game. But game of year? No way. I'm not sure I get all the hype. Sorry to all the diehards of the Tony Hawk franchise.

5T.H.U.G -Tony Hawk's Underground - Best Game Yet!!!!!Mar 04, 2004

I had never really been a Tony Hawk fan before I played this game. Yeah, I like to skateboard and yeah, I do love cool tricks but none of the other Tony Hawk games expressed this. I have never played Tony Hawk pro skater 1 and 2 was really crummy. Number 4 DID NOT make an improvment on the rest. The only one that was at least 3 stars was number 3. But when I played underground I noticed that A LOT had changed.
First of all underground has a point to it. In all the other games your just a skate punk pointlessly skating. In underground you skateboard in hope of becoming a champ. At the same time your enemy eric is "competing" against you. Story mode is really fun and a good edition.
Also the moves and tricks are much better. Some of the tricks are just silly but they are still fun. Adding to the tricks if you unlock moon gravity you can sour really high and pull more tricks.
Also playing multiplayer is awesome. Some of the games are really fun. Firefight and king of the hill are two of my favorites.
Another cool thing about this game is that you get to drive cars. In alevel to unlock Hotter Than Hell you can drive carts. But when it comes to driving the controls are HORRIBLE!!!
But in all this game is one of the best games ever. ALthough it could use a few new additions it is excellent. I would tell you to buy it immediely but it is very expensive. You should wait untill the price goes down to buy it.

5Great game; don't pass it by.Nov 23, 2005

In 2003, Neversoft released a game a bit different from the others. You could be yourself. Well, this is still Tony Hawk so it's about skateboarding. Although they did get a bit "off-topic", it's forgivingly fun sometimes, and not like Underground 2 (still another good Tony Hawk game though). I found it to be quite fun, yes.

Graphics. Nearly perfect. The guy below me may have a faulty disc or something. When they talk, it REALLY looks like their talking. Everything is animated very well, and I am happy with it.

Sound. This has great sound, sound quality, music, and voiceovers. Not much I can say here.

Gameplay. Controls aren't hard to learn. For most tricks, a simple button combination. The same familiar meters for grinds and manuals are back. This isn't a very short game, nor very long game. In Story Mode, you do goals to progress. Often helping or impressing someone, the final level goal always has something to do with the story itself. And you'll enjoy the game. I'm sure.

Tony Hawk's Underground for GameCube: Buy or Not? Of course! This is highly recommended for any GameCube owner.

5Truely awsomeNov 20, 2004
By Em Katyna "BloodRedBunny"
I don't skate board in real life, but in video games I am the queen of the kickflip!lol! This game, unlike the other Tony Hawk games, has more of a story. At the beginning, you live in a dumpy part of New Jersey were there is this street called "Elm Street" were drug dealers hang out.You try to get sponsered by Paralta's skateboarding shop and must go threw tasks and goals. Its very fun especaily when the Elm Street drug dealers try to kidnap Eric(your friend who becomes your enemy later on) because he set their car on fire so you have to go chasing after them in a awsime car!
Since the drug dealers are after Eric, you escape with him to Manhaten. There you have to overcome more challenges and deal with lots of people calling you "A stupid kid from Jersey".While your in Manhaten you make a sponser-me video for Paralta. You must do tricks over a flaming taxi while Eric films you!Its really fun.
You send the tape to Paralta and the next thing you know, your in Tampa to atend a skating comptetitoin!

I'm gunna shut up now before I spoil it to much.lol
