most frustrating game ever playedMay 12, 2002
By Claude Beland WTA tour Tennis has the graphics and gameplay I've been looking for for years. The World Tour Mode is a great idea where you compete for WTA points and enjoy a rise in rankings.Where I have a problem with the game is that it is virtually impossible to beat a player, even in Tier 4 tournaments as the CPU players never miss. In fact, these 90th ranked players have an amazing ability to hit an ace when needed and to pinpoint returns of serve directly on the line time and time again. I could understand this if I was playing a top 10 player, but hte first round of Tier 4 tennis is a bit exaggerated. It is extremely difficult to rush the net, and if you do, you can be sure the CPU player will find a line somehow or the other. I also found that the controls left a lot to be desired. The dash function only seems to accomplish making the player stop briefly, run then swing erratically away from the direction of the ball; quite useless and frustrating. I don't mind loosing a game, but find myself loosing 6-0 every single time. Quickly lost interest in the game and must say to those considering it to strongly consider renting it first if you can. Perhaps you'll find something in this game that I missed.

Good, yet not enough speed,, but must have for Tennis fans.Apr 02, 2002
Much waited game version of WTA Tour Tennis is, as expected, pioneering. It is the first and the best playable Tennis game on the PS2 format which is inspiring enough to begin with. Graphics are pretty decent and the players look very much alike themsleves,, though some of them tend to be a little out of fashion.. (i.e. Jen Capriati with light brown hair,,, a bit mid 90s). Yet, if u have been very much happy with Sega Tennis 2002 that has a great graphic with realistic speed of the game, beware the u will face some disappointment here since it doesn't capture the speed of the game well enough. Game counts can be a little long, especially if u play on the tour mode where u have to play full three sets games. Nevertheless, the games are exciting since you have all the well-know players on the Tour on the format, and the draw style makes u think as if u r really competing on the toiur circuit itself..... One last question and perhaps disappoinment may be,,, where is Venus Williams? and Anna Kournikova for that matter? For the moment, I guess Martina Hingis will do,,, till the sequel version come out,, with improved speed of the game.. Buy it if you are a big fan of the Tennis games and the PS2,,, it will take some time to get use to, but eventually u will get to love it.

Very Underrated GameJun 16, 2004
Yes, this game is not perfect, but do not listen to all the people who say that it is awful. I have played virtually all of the tennis games out there: Sega Sprots Tennis, Topspin, Smash Court Tennis, etc. And this is my favorite. Unlike the other games, when you simply press a button at any time and your player hits a great shot, this game actually requires skill. People who say that all you can do is pop the ball up have simply not mastered the timing. Dont freak out when I say this, it is not that hard to learn. When you do you can hit some amazing shots. Tactics are also very important in this game unlike the others, and you can play a variety of game styles. The graphics are nothing to rave about but they are ok. When you get good at this game the computer is too easy to beat even on "very hard". The sound is by far the best of any tennis game. Monica Seles' grunt is perfect! Overall this game has a few flaws but is great fun and definetly underrated by people who think it is awful. Also just a note: Topspin is not that great. It is very one dimensional. Not much variety. Your player tendsto bolt in the opposite direction just before you hit the ball. The graphics are amazing but the gameplay is very mediocre and can be very frustrating. Try WTA Tour Tennis, it is the funnest tennis game out there.

It's okay...Sep 15, 2003
I bought this game first, when it first came out. It was okay, but I didn't really enjoy it. There are a lot of different controls you have to remember, which I didn't like. The one thing I liked was the different players it has on it. If you want a tennis game that out does all the tennis games out there, you have to play Sega Sports Tennis! It's so easy to play and so much more fun!! I sold WTA as soon as I played Sega Sports Tennis... it was a lot more fun!:)

PredictableAug 08, 2002
It's fun -- just way to easy -- all you need is good timing to crush even the likes of Serena 6/0 6/0! Even in the most difficult mode. My major complaint -- WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU SAW MONICA SELES AT NET? Drives me crazy that every opponent comes to net (even when you're hitting deep shots!). Makes it predictable. If you are looking for something that makes you think strategically -- this is not a game for you!
