This is now one of my FAVE games of all time!Mar 10, 2004
I've never been a huge fan of this type of game, but I was intrigued by the depth of the characters and their beautiful artwork. I also wanted to see how the genre had evolved since the days of Super Punch Out and let me tell you that I was not disappointed - this game rocks! The game has real depth, although it's as simple to play as one of those incredibly catchy Flash games that you always see getting sent around - like that fabulous Dancing Peanut one! Anyway, all I can say is that you MUST try this game. I normally play my games on XBox and PS2 and am generally put off by the GBA's lack of processing power, but this game really pushes the wee box to it's limits with addictive gameplay that wil have you coming back again and again and again. In short, go and get it - you'll not regret it!

Do all of you people really believe this is a 5 star game?Mar 29, 2004
By cen OK, let's get it out of the way. Yes, this game is great looking. It is not only very flashy with large cartoon looking characters and backgrounds, but it has style too. The game has a lot of personality. It even sounds good, with a bit of digitized voice, and decent music & sound effects. The little story is kind of funny, but its more goofy than funny. This game does not look or sound cheap. The play control is tight, with good response, and natural button choices (buttons on the left punch with your left arm, etc). And, oh yeah, it's kind of like Punch-Out! There are 3 save game slots to keep your record and money. But this is still a $20 game and they had to cut corners somewhere. Well, actually I don't know if they HAD to, but they did. This game is very short and can be beaten with relative ease, in the first setting, with the exception of the final boss, Don. That guy is quite hard. The other thing is that while the control is tight, it is also pretty shallow. You have six basic punches, but very little distinguishing one from the other. Anything a left punch will do, a right punch will do as well. The super moves you can buy are not very impressive, but they help improve the depth a bit. Maybe some people out there would stay interested in this game for dozens upon dozens of hours. I am not one of these people. It's a good game, buy it if it sounds good to you. But it's only a real deal at $20. You can think of it as a really flashy skin put on old Punch-Out! gameplay. Or you can think of it as an incredibly shallow fighting game, that is also very pretty. Chances are you'll start out the former and end up the latter. But, I still say someone in the mood for handheld arcade boxing will enjoy this.

Do yourself a favour, just play Punch-Out insteadApr 30, 2009
By Jesse Haun Most definitely NOT in the same league as Punch-Out. It's pretty, granted, but the bland, unnecessarily slow-paced gameplay, which relies less on actual strategy and more on ridiculous amounts of endurance, more than counteracts any good the graphics might have done.
Also, "dumb hick" humour has been done to death. This game isn't nearly as funny as it thinks it is. A few of the characters have admittedly amusing designs, but without clever writing to back it up, they fail to make any sort of real impact.
Clearly, this game is made by people who liked Punch-Out, yet somehow they've missed out on the elements that actually made that game, y'know, fun. This wouldn't be horrible as a free fan Flash game. As something you're actually expected to pay money for, though....no thanks.

One of the Best Handheld Games Ever MadeMar 27, 2004
By Richard This is the game Punch-Out fans have been waiting for. It has all the quick-reflex fun and quirky personality of the old Nintendo classic, updated with fantastic hand-drawn animation and light RPG elements that extend the gameplay. The character design is wonderful, the writing is funny, the gameplay is perfect. Even the music is good. At 19.99, this is the bargain of the year. I can't over-emphasize how great this game looks. You've never seen anything like it on a handheld console screen. By the way, this is the first video game I've ever ordered from Amazon. I ordered it because a certain enormous Video Game store chain (same initials as Eloping Baboons) has decided not to carry it. That company's buyer is, apparently, an idiot. Thank you, Amazon, for making such a great game available!
