5A game for Yu-Gi-Oh players, newbies bewareDec 26, 2010
By Brandon Johnson
Caution: Not for beginners
This game is is not an introductory into the world of yu-gi-oh. There is no tutorial in how to play the card game. You are expected to know how in this game, and if you don't then pray you know someone who can teach you on the fly. That being said, you really only need to be a beginner at the game at first. The first AI's are simple to beat, do not play their decks to the fullest and can easily be 'frightened' into playing defense when they really should be playing offense.

Caution: Build, customize, expirement or lose
That said, the game does offer a multitude of cards. Do not expect your mix and match starter deck to lead you to beating the game. Be willing to expierement as you purchase new packs with duel points, or DP, the in game currency provided for dueling as well as can be found. If you do not adjust your deck to a particular strategy, prepare for the frustration of being unable to progress. Once again though there is an upside. With over 4500 cards, there is a great many strategies you can base your decks on, and just as many 'tweaks' you can do to make that strategy better.

Caution: Frustrating traps
We asked for it in past games, and we have it in this one: The ability to play a trap at every applicable moment. Seriously, I don't think we knew what we were asking for. Be prepared to by rapidly hitting the B button if you want to save a trap or quick play magic card for later. Just for an example, this is how an opponent's turn might work out:
Draw phase: do you want to activate a card.
Standby phase: do you want to activate a card
Main Phase 1:
(Opponent plays a monster) do you want to activate a card
(Opponent sets a card) do you want to activate a card
(Opponent activates a magic card) do you want to activate a card
Battle Phase:
(Opponent declares an attack) do you want to activate a card
(entering battle) do you want to activate a card
(entering damage step) do you want to activate a card
(the opponent plays a trap) do you want to activate a card
Repeat the above for each attack the opponent makes.
Main Phase 2: (Optional)
possible repeat of Main phase 1
End phase.

Then it begins again, but this time with your own turn.

So with all of these cautions, you might ask me, "Brandon, why did you rate the game so high?"
My answer:
Because everything above is what makes the game great. The ability to play a challenging game with so many options, strategies and opportunities to react. Even if you don't like the story, even if you don't like the movement system (check other reviews for info on those), if you like the yu-gi-oh card game, then this game is for you.
Also, don't forget about the value. I have a friend who is coming up to spending $2000.00 on a total card collection and travels miles to get to a place where he can play the game with other people.
Here, you have accesss to just as many cards, if not more, and can play against the people from all over the world, all from the comfort of your home and for a decent price. To me, this is the jackpot of the Yu-gi-oh trading card game, and for all of its flaws, I have to say that its creators did well. Yes, they did well.

3Its a start but needs some work.Dec 09, 2010
By Carl Anderson "agriculture is the future"
Well folks here it is the first Yugioh dueling title for the Wii. Now to start off if your not a fan of Yugioh or of playing the card game this title will not be for you. This game has a unique board your character travels around collecting items and dueling opponents. You play a roulette game to determine how many moves you can make. Dueling against characters that appear in the game will earn you experience and the in game currency which you will need to purchase additional packs to improve the rather meager starter deck you begin the game with.

Good News:
-The story is interesting
-The game play is a bit unusual for this kind of game but not so much as to be a draw back.
When a sizeable attack lands on an opponent there is an animation.
-There are summoning animations for some of the monsters in this game that are very impressive, the summoning and attack animation of Red Dragon Archfiend is stunning

Bad News:
-Early advertisements suggested this game would be released with a Duel Scanner. This scanner is not present and it appears at this time that this game may not be compatible with the scanner
-The graphics for the whole game could be better. The board the player moves on is interesting to look at but the duels themselves are lacking in animation. Given how well monsters were animated in the Forbidden Kingdom game for Game Cube I was hoping the monsters would be stunning and would stand on the field putting the DS to shame. Unfortunately the animation for the dueling portion is lacking. It reminded me of the animation to some of the early Game Boy Advanced titles. Considering this game is going to require players to be dueling a lot it seems to me the designers should have made the duels more visually appealing than they did.
-Few really good monster summoning animations at this point.
-This game does not sync to the DS titles. Unless there is a way to unlock this I could not find anyway to sync WC 2010 to this game which I think would have been a good idea as it could have unlocked some cards.

4Possibly the best Yu-Gi-Oh! game out there.Feb 07, 2011
By Senam
If you've ever wanted to be a character of any of the Yu-gi-oh series, or compete against other players (without feeling stupid for holding trading cards) this is the game for you. It plays exactly like in the Anime. This game is pretty simple to understand, but as you get further into this game, it gets REALLY hardcore!! Although the game is focused on the game play and rules (there are NO major animations, except for certain special cards) it is really fun to play, and can be a little addictive, as well.
Now, the pros and cons...
-Pros: you can earn points mostly after winning battles, purchase sets of cards and customize your deck.
face tons and tons of enemies. Come up with creative combos and outsmart your rivals. You can also play online against other players (I haven't played online myself, yet, so I'm not sure how great the competition is, out there).

-cons: since it's a cards game, you don't always get the card you need (especially when you're being overwhelmed by your opponoent's moves). Some enemies seem to have the exact card they need to counter most of the moves you were planning. Some rivals play REALLY dirty (for example: you can only summon one monster per turn, and "special summon" a few more, if you have the proper cards... but this one character, in particular, could summon up to three cards a turn. :( )

Overall a great game, but the battles you'll wage will be a LOT harsher than what you saw in the anime.

4Know your basicsApr 26, 2011
By 2LittleGirlsTx
You need to know the basics of dueling in order to play this game - for instance, monster cards, levels of monsters, face down cards, etc. However, the game has lots of levels so that you can duel at a level that is appropriate for you. Besides that, the game is lots of fun and a great practice for dueling.

4Not bad. Pretty goodApr 18, 2011
By Warpig
Overall the game is not bad. The only gripe i have is the speed and graphics of the game. But overall it is fun and i would recommend to any experienced Yu Gi Oh players. Tons of cards and lots of different options. This game is for the experienced duelist. I didn't have a problem at the beginning with bad cards. Just know when to attack, activate spells and set traps right and you shouldn't have a problem.
